I have a traditions muzzleloader and was wondering if anybody else had this same problem. I was having trouble getting decent groupings( I know how to shoot!) and couldn't figure it out. This season i loaded the gun for hunting, but never fired it. when i got home and took it apart to unload it, the pellets were not straight in the breech. Nor were they seated all the way, even though i used alot of pressure to press them in. My question then is this, If the pellets don't fit into the breech above the flash hole, that leaves an air gap that wouldn't be there with loose powder. Has anybody else had similar issues or can people give me their opinons on how this could affect the performance and is it normal or ok?

If the pellets don't fit into the breech above the flash hole-- This sentence really confuses me. can you explain that a little better? Is it possible, you never cleaned the barrel good enough last time you cleaned it + some particles of burnt powder sort of jammed the pellets so that they couldn't be seated properly. Just an idea.
no, i took the gun apart to unload it, and the pellet was stuck in the end of the breech plug. i broke it apart and then cleaned the recess in the plug with a wire brush. i then tried a new pellet to see if it would fit, but they are to wide, not by much, but enough that i can't force it in.
Sounds like you have a "Thunderdome" breechplug. Nice concept, but as you can clearly see, not always effective (tolerances, etc). Conventional style inline breech plugs for Traditions rifle are very cheap to replace, or switch to loose powder.
