read some magazine reports on them, just wanted feedback from someone who actually purchased and used, maybe a comparison to ruger

I'm quite impressed with my 783 in 308win. It has a medium contour barrel which seems to hold tighter groups as it heats up, the magaizine catch is steel not plastic, the injection moulded stock is a different compound than others and is a lot stiffer(can mount a bipod without the stock moving when loading it)...it has a very nice trigger adjustable down to 2.5Lbs and it is accurate...did I mention it is accurate.
I'd buy another one and recommend it to a friend or family member as a good budget rifle. :)

The 783 is basically a Marlin XL7.

The 783 and the XL7 share the same trigger and thats about it from my understanding anyways....the XL7 has a completely different action, its an open top action where as the 783 has an ejection port cut into the action similar to the 788's of past, reportedly making it stiffer. The 783 also has a heavier contour barrel making the rifle heavier but also aids in accuracy as the barrel heats up. I'm not sure if the stocks are of the same polymer giving the extra stiffness that the 783 has.

I've been considering trying one out for ####'s and giggles. Remington didn't build much of a reputation with their previous 770 and 7whatever other number. My old man has one of the older ones, it's not that nice but it's really pretty accurate.
I'm hearing that the new 783 is a fair improvement over the older cheapies. Some guys claiming really good accuracy. That said, I usually push the Vanguard or Ruger (in that order) for current budget guns.
