Just sold one in 22-250 but jeez, the action was lousy, kinda like throwin a hotdog down a hallway.... Still got a mag for that caliber, damn , they aren't cheap either. +2 on the 700.
I have one in 22-250 that consistantly shoots handloads into 3/4" at 100 meters. It keeps me from buying another 22-250. I did lighten up the trigger on it.
Bill.
They do shoot well.
I have a "long" 788 action - the one used for .243, 6mm, 7mm-08, .308. For the time, effort and expense, I don't know why a 788 would be preferanble to any number of other actions.
"...get a model 788 Remington action for 6mm..." It'll be a used rifle. The 788 was discontinued in 1983. Buy one in any .308 based cartridge. You might find a rifle already chamered in 6mm Rem, if that's what you're looking at building.
It would be easier to find a beat up M700 though. You won't likely find just a receiver for either, unless you get lucky and are in the right place at the right time with a fistful of money.
