Hi just got a Rem 700 mountian DM and I am looking for ideas about what type of ammo (weight) I should try I will be hunting deer and do not hand load, it has a 22" barrel I have read good things about Premeir Accutip (Boat Tail) 140gr any help would be great.

My own 7mm-08 rifles did very well with 140gr bullets, but if I still had a 7mm-08 today,I might try the 120gr TTSX,especially if I was planning on hunting elk or moose.

As far as factory ammo goes, I always had good luck with Federal and Winchester premium stuff, not so much with the Remington ammo. Federal lists 5 different loads for the 7-08, 4 being premium loads and 1 soft-point load. If I was using factory ammo these days, I'd just find the one that shot the best and use it for everything, premium or not...

I just got the exact same rifle; same caliber and everything. So far I've only tried the winchester supreme 140gr ballistic silvertips. They shot quite well for a few rounds, until the barrel heated up.

I too just bought a 7mm-08 in Kimber m84. all our local shop had was te 140 grain but i am leaning toward 130. like blargon says, find what shoots best and use it. i'm going to.

I have a M700 Mountain DM in 7-08 also and have found the Winchester 140gr. Ballistic Silvertip to be fantastic in mine. Even though it may be redundant I do find that the Partition from Federal to very pleasing on target and game.

You'll have to try a box of as many brands and bullet weights as you can to find the ammo your rifle shoots best.
"...until the barrel heated up..." That's normal for a light barrel. Hunting shots are taken with a cold barrel, so what it does when hot isn't terribly important. Just allow lots of time for cooling when you're trying brands.

Locally in the lower mainland I tried two stores for factory ammo without luck. I'm sure there's some around but it seems like it's a bit of an orphan compared to a lot of the other chamberings. So unless you want to be "stuck" shooting which ever factory rounds you can find you may want to look into reloading.

Given that I want to play at the Steel Silhouette game I'll be going through quite a bit of ammo. So rather than pay factory prices I've aimed at reloading right from the beginning. My TC Encore 7mm-08 is patiently sitting in the cabinet waiting for me to get the last of the bits and pieces I need to load up the 150 cases I've got. Then the fun starts.

7mm 08

I have a Remington 700 BDL that I had a 7mm 08 SS Mountain Rifle barrel installed. Its about a half to a pound heavier than a model 7. I think there is only one place in Moncton that now sells 7mm 08 ammo and that is Better Buy Sports. They carry Federal and some other brands. All I could get prior to this store opening was Remington ammo at gun shows either 120 gr or 140 gr, not a whole lot of choices. I don't reload yet but have picked up some bullets for 7mm 08 and my 7 X 57s. I can always get someone to load a few boxes for me.

Nosler Solid Base 150 gr

Nosler Ballistic Silver Tip 140 gr

Hornady 162 gr BTSP

Sierra 160 gr Spitzer Boat Tail

The 160 gr bullets would be better suited for my 7 X 57s.

The CTC and Wal Mart stored don't even know what a 7mm 08 is. I guess if you requested it from them long enough it would eventually show up.
