This is probably not new for most but it is the first time I have witnessed such a difference in grouping between ammunition types. These shots were from my 700 at only 50 yards. I'm not a perfect shot but can do well enough to feel there is a big difference here (bi-pod and rear support used). first is 120gr fusion's, second 139gr sst superformance. What have others experience been with the 7mm-08?

Yes, quite a difference at 50 yds!

My BAR Short Trac in 7mm-08 doesn't like the Superforamce ammo as well, tried both the 139gr SST and 139gr GMX, more of a pattern than a group! Shoot pretty decent in a couple of other 7mm-08's I have/had in the past.

This phenomenon can occur with any caliber, some rifles can be quite finicky about bullet/load combinations. I have seen this several times when supervising public sight in sessions at our range. This is a good example of what can happen when someone uses one type of ammo for practice then switches to another for hunting. Good for you for trying different loads.

wow i must say that is preety wild for 50 yards ..

that honardysuperpro must make some awful groups at 100 yards even at 50 yards that would a terrible grouping at 100

never seen something quite that bad

good to have pics for evidences thanks

Which group did you shoot first, and did you let the barrel cool between shots? My model seven's groups go all to heck after the barrel heats up. Not as likely with your 700 barrel and shooting in the winter, but possible.

Oh, forgot to add my 7 is in 7mm-08 as well and it likes federal fusion 140's best of the ammo I have fed it so far. (haven't tried Hornady yet).

120 grains first and then the hornady's. I was pretty patient between groups/shots and barrel still felt cool. I was so shocked I proceeded to shoot another 3 shot group with the 120's after and they were tight again. Next session I'm planning to shoot the hornady's first to give them a fair shake,

Trust me, my Savage 10BA in 308 Win has exhibited very similar results!
Slowly, but surely I'm discovering what she likes.

Howver, its getting rebarreled to 7mm-08 when my Krieger "Heavy Target" barrel with 1:9.5 twist arrives :) ... in about 20 weeks :(

Just the barrel harmonics.

I have a 7-08 in a rig with a Krieger barrel also, it will have 2 MOA difference between different load/bullet combinations, do not be alarmed.

Maybe try some 140 corelokt's they have always performed well for many folks.

I would say this isnt unusual. Thats why its wise to try different ammo to find out which flavour your rifle likes. Its a reason why lots of us reload, so that we can taylor our ammo to exactly what the firearms prefers.
