Hey guys,

Well I bit the bullet and took on a new 7mm-08 Sako Battue with wood furniture. Happily I have irons that I much desire.

How about some input on a scope as well as some reports on animals taken with "your" 7mm-08 and it's performance.

Thanks

Seal

I really like the Leupold 3.5 x 10-40mm Boone and Crockett...in dual dovetail mounts.
It's all the power you need and as rock solid and foolproof as can be.

I have the Leupold 3-9x40 Mark 2 with the LR reticle......works amazing!

This is 2008 season with the rifle....plus a couple does....

I have a T3 lite in 7mm-08, So far I have taken 1 black bear at 40 yds. and one ground hog at 125

I scoped it with a 3.5-10 Elite 4200 right scope at the right price at the right time on CGN.
If I had the cash I would scope all of my guns with 50mm objectives, but it is a fine scope. I like a scope with a high magnification mostly for sighting in but some day I might need the extra magnification.

Enjoy.

I have a Rem 7600 in 7mm-08 with a Burris LRS 1.75-6 with the safari retical.I shot a couple does with it using over the counter Rem Cor-Loct ammo.Did the job as expected.I picked up dies and I am waiting for spring to work up some pet loads. Can't wait!

I have a 7- 08 for the last 26 yr and used it for deer only with the hornady 154 gr or the 140 ballistic tip and had good results. I use a 2-7 redfield on mine. I don't use it for heayier animals since I have lighter, heavier calibers for that.

I had a Remington model 7 in 7mm-08 a few years back. I used the Hornady 139gr Interlock at rather low velocities. I took a nice 4 point mulie buck with it at almost point blank range. It ran about 50 yards then dropped stone dead. I sold the gun, not because of the cartridge, but I missed another buck at reasonably close range; with the short barrel, and the light stock there was no weight out front. I need that weight out front to hold a gun steady offhand, not a lot, but some weight.

Great photo's guys!

Hey Sealhunter, congrats. That's a beautiful rifle and a great cartridge. I don't have a "your" story to share, but my Uncle swears by his seven oh eight. He's killed deer and moose with his, and he certainly doesn't feel the need for anything more.

I have had several scopes on my 7mm-08's, VX-III 2.5-8x36, VX-II 2-7x33, elite 4200 3-9x40, legend 2-7x32 but my favorite setup right now is Sako Model 75 Stainless Synthetic with Conetrol Ring and Base set with a Leupold VX-III 1.5-5x20. Nice light scope with excellent clarity and plenty of eye relief. Turned down gives me all the field of view I need for in the thick stuff and turned to 5X is more than enough for 300 - 400 yd shots.

I have shot deer with the 7mm-08's with 120gr & 140 gr tsx, 139gr hornaday interlock bt and flat base, 160gr partitions. They all worked but my favorites where the 120gr tsx fast and flat and the 139gr interlock flat base most accurate and seemed to really put them down.

On my second 7mm-08 rifle.
First one was a remy LVSF,shot great with the tsx 120gr bullets.

It did the job on large bodied muleys as well. The tsx plowed down through 8" of spine and exited out the off shoulder.

I guess I figured someone else needed that rifle more than I and sold it.I just picked up my second 7mm-08.This one is a tikka M595 in stainless synthetic.First loads are promising, just started with the 120gr baltips.RB

I've had a Rem 788 carbine in 7mm-08 for about 30 years or so. It was my all around big game rifle for a long time. I never felt under gunned, and I still grab it for a walk in the woods occasionally. I also have a 7mm-08 AI on a Rem 600 platform, slightly faster then the stock version, but not enough to matter to the animals. Probably the best or second best all around hunting caliber for most of Canada, really. - dan

Count me in as a fan of the 7mm-08....

I've got a Rem 788 in 7mm08 with the factory 18 1/2" carbine barrel. Replaced the beat up factory plain wood stock with a Ramline synthetic back in the day when Ramlines came with a Pachmayr decelerator installed. This was my first 7mm-08 and is a keeper.

Later also acquired a vintage Rem 700 heavy barrel in 7mm-08. Just for fun for punching paper & working up loads for it.

Then there's this one. It was a rebarrel that our very own 'guntech' did up for me. She's a keeper, too.

Yeah, I'm a 7mm-08 fan....

NAA.

I got a T3 in 7-08 in a trade here in the EE. My son shoots it. I've got it loaded with book max Varget under 140gr interbonds. He's taken 2 bears and a young mulie in the last two years. One bear under 20yds and the mulie at 125. Both were bang flops.

This was his first bear.
