7mm bullet for yotes

Not much from what I have seen. The V-Max is the most explosive 7mm bullet I have used.

I would try a very hard bullet and try to avoid bone, or else slow the V-Max way down and hope it stayed inside. Either way it is almost impossible to shoot coyotes with any 7mm yet save the pelts; the two just don't go together.

Don't use a 139 SST. I've shot a couple while deer hunting these past few years. Blows 5 inch entrance and exit holes. Try to find something nonexpanding because the bullet isn't even going to slow down going through.

"...other choices do I have?..." You'd be better off using something like a .223 or .243 loaded with commercial FMJ's if you want the hides. Any 7mm bullet(A magnum?) will go right through a coyote leaving a big exit hole.

I use ballistic tips sometimes on yotes. A 7mm will always destroy the pelt. Im going to do up some nosler 120 ballistic tips but it would still do in the pelt. My grandada would always use a .22 and I have used a .204. In both cases the pelts were salvagable. I would say the 22-250 would be about the optimal size but Im no expert.

HEAVY Match bullets is your best bet. It should slow it down a bit.

I've seen a coyote shot with a 7mm Mag and it literally blew up, do not recommend.

If 7mm is too much gun with any jacketed bullet, how about cast bullets?
Muzzle energy can be greatly reduced, and plinking with a centre fire is fun (and super easy on the shoulder).

The problem with using all these "hard" bullets is that if you hit bone, it's still goiing to blow up the coyote. If you don't hit a bone, as in going between the ribs, chances are good it will whistle on through and not put it down soon enough for you to recover it.

I am very interested in this topic too as I just picked up a 7mm-08 off the EE forum, and I intend to knock off a few yodle dogs with it this winter. I was thinking of trying the 120 grain Nosler Ballistic tip, or the Hornady 120 grain Vmax. Are either of these a good choice?

Depends what your hunting purpose is... if your looking to save the pelts then the ballistic tip or V-max isnt going to be something you want to use...

If your looking to just go out shoot and blow them up as if they where varmints then by all means use the ballistic tip or V-Max
