7mm + IMR7828

The range listed below works
IMR-7828 From 59.5 grains to 68.0 grains
CCI-200 Primer

But I preferred
Retumbo From 65.0 grains to 71.3 grains
CCI-200 Primer

I would personally want to see nothing slower than 4350 in that proj. brass combo..IMO

Why? With large case capacity wouldn't you want to go with a slower powder and use up more volume? I have some 4350 kicking around as well.

RETUMBO 73.5C 2963 50,500 CUP
H1000 70.0 2905 49,600 CUP

H4350 58.0 2799 49,400 CUP

7828 to slow

H870 80.0 2883 43,300 CUP
With 81.0gr of H870 and a 160gr Partitions I was getting just under 3100fps.

I am using a Steyr-Mannlicher S Luxus with 25.6" barrel (650mm).

Isn't Retumbo and H1000 slower than 7828?

I have only tried one load using 7828 in my 7mm and one load with H-870 ( both no hell) but its really liking IMR4831 with the 160 Nosler Partition, and also RL-25 with the 175Nosler Partition(older semi-spitzer) Mine is a model 70 with a 26 inch barrel.

I have heard on other websites that RL-25 doesnt give a consistant burn, but I have experienced the opposite with SD's in the single digits. With 66.0grains of RL-25 and a 175 Nosler Part,I am getting great groups and average velocitities around 2815fps.

yep, they're both slower burning, as is RL25

I personally would pick H4831 or H1000 when loading 160's in a 7mm Mag, but I'd even try Retumbo. I really like the Hodgdon Extreme line.

I did load 7828 in my 7saum w/ 162 gr. SST's and 175 gr. Interlocks. Got 2950 fps and 2800 fps (respectively) with the loads. I highly doubt that 7828 is 'too slow' for a 7mm Mag.

Hell, I've used H1000 in my 260 alot, and that is a small case.

try the 7828, it's a classic 7mm Mag powder, I think I read somewhere it is what the factorys used to load the original factory loads with. :)

I like IMR4831 in my 7MM. I'm shooting 140gr. & 162gr Hornady SST's. I think slower powders perform better in heavier calibers.

If I have done my reading , 7828 was based on the factory powder used to develope the 7 mm rem mag . I also use IMR 7828 with a barnes X 160 gr bullet . feet per second at fifteen feet (corny distance from barrel ) 3100 . I use 61 grains of IMR 7828 for light skined animals Ie deer and 65 grains for elk moose and so on . Hope this helps . Joe

You will like the results of the IMR 7828. Has proven very accurate in both my 7RMs and 162gr bullets (amax and sst). Both did better with Re25 though. I am going to try Retumbo next as this is easier for me to buy.

h1000 is the fastest powder I would use with this bullet weight. Was just too fast in my rifles. H870 is supposed to be great but hasn't panned out in my rifles. Plus, no longer available.

I use Rem brass collet neck sized lit with Fed 215M primers. At ranges out to 1000m, both rifles shoot extremely well. Add in how well those 162gr Amax fly and I have my extreme range plinker.
