7mm in Boer war mauser

f soldaten you shoot first and let me know, if I don't hear from you I won't shoot mine

Vry Staat. Great to see on the papers the Mauser listed as 1896 Orange Free State Mauser, specially when I was born in the OFS. :D

Edit 02/10/05 : Wish I knew the history of mine, gets lost it's unfortunate.

Mine is from the ZAR, but they were not marked. It supposedly belonged to an Irishman in the Irish commando who went to help the Boers fight the kakhis.

Correct original loading for these is the original 7x57 Mauser cartridge with the 174-grain round-nosed bullet.
Original ammo was German manufacture, headstamped DM K and a date (eg: 18 99).

If going through original Boer ammo, check for cartridges with a SHORT NECK: these are 7x54 Mauser cartridges, very rare, go for piles of money.

This is a nice-shooting cartridge with the 140-grain bullet and is capable of accuracy that would absolutely frighten your socks off.

thanks kresjanxx. i just want to get a box and try her out this weekend or so. Oh yes, and thanks for that article you sent me about year ago, i never thanked you for it. Very informative! Went to south africa this year, and saw a boer war cavalry carbine for +-200$ and also a martini henry for just a bit more with a carved stock. Unfortunately the new gun laws make it near to impossible to get guns out of the country.
