7mm mag load advice

I know I could look all of this up and go out to the range and spend hours testing but I am cheap and inherently lazy So I thought I might ask some of your opinions and real world experiences so I could get a start on developing a load for my 7mm rem mag.

I want a fast shooting ( preferably 3000 fps + ) deer load that I can be comfortable with out to 400 yards. ( probably in the 150 gr range )


What combos have you fellas tried and what results have you found. I don't have a chrony and the data in the books always seems a bit off in terms of speeds. The rifle is a TC venture and they are built like tanks and so far shoots very accurately with my 175 loads but I'd like to shoot something a little flatter for deer.

Well not to rain on your parade but for load development you are gonna need to test,test,test.

No two rifles with shoot the same. Invest in a chrony, you will find it an absolute asset when testing and comparing.

The manuals are just guides and are guided towards safe load development.

The manuals information will not likely be duplicated with your rifle due to many different factors within the rifle itself.

start small with powder charges and work up.

If you try someone else "pet" load, you could wind up with disastrous effects.

You most accurate load may not have 3000+f/sec , a miss is still at miss at any muzzle velocity.

As for suggestions. I will suggest Sciroccos from Swift, they are a high BC bullet with a bonded core and come in 150 grain.

I have taken 25 to 30 deer with the 140gr Ballistic tip,but the 140gr Accubond would be an even better choice,even though bonded bullets aren't required for deer.You could also try the 120gr TTSX.I have had no problems finding a 140gr load that would produce 3200fps with acceptable accuracy,and 120gr loads will normally reach 3350fps to 3400fps with decent accuracy.

I find that I can usually come up with a usable load in one or two range sessions,but I often use up another couple of range sessions fine tuning a load to optimize it.

Go 63 grains of imr 4831 140 gr quality bullet and federal 210 primer.

x3 on the 215's and r-22 and lots of testing, powder loads, seating depth and with 160 accubonds

180 gr VLD hunting, moly, 70 gr Re22, 3.48", 3025 fps 26" barrel.

Shoots 0.8" at 100 yards, but more like 12" at 500 yards, so I have to get closer.

I shot this deer a month ago at 380 yards. The bullet went through the shoulder and it was bang flop.
Now the deer is in the cold freezer and I am in the warm house.
