I am going to start reloading for 7mm and was wondering whats a good power to start with. I will be using 160-162 gr bullets. I was looking at RL22 to start. Is this good or should I start with a different one.

Which 7MM? Rem mag, win short mag, 7 mm mauser etc. Each rifle is a beast of its own. Most manuals give good references as to performance for hunting or accuracy.

RL22 should be fine, but the other suggestions also work well in the 7mm Mag. If you have access to Vihtavuori powder, two great numbers from them are N165 & N170 Regards, Eagleye.

For me, the most accurate 7mm Remington Magnum load (and the one I try when loading for any new rifle in this cartridge) is 61.5 to 62 grains of IMR 4831 with the 162 Hornady or the 160 Nosler Partition. It always works.

Other powders, as mentioned by the others, are H4831SC and Reloder 22. I agree with those who say that Reloder 22 is an absolute classic for this cartridge, and IMR 7828 has a strong following, too.

H4831sc, RL22, H1000, IMR 7828ssc, Retumbo, RL25

enough H1000 to push a 140 triple shock to 3200 fps was my load in the Sendero I had

I use IMR 7828 SSC . I use 61.0 grains of 7828 ssc with a 160 grain Barnes x flat base bullet . I shoot key hole groups every time . I bump up the grains to 65.0 for elk or moose . I hope this helps Joe Lafortune CD

Just got back from the range with Doug's friend, Phil. We were sighting in Doug's 350 Rem Mag for his hunt up here.

One of the rifles I shot was my old three lug SAKO in 7mm Rem Mag.

IMR4831 + Winchester mag primers +160 gr Accubonds = <.750" group

Did it twice! :)

RL22 works well in my current 7mm rem mag with 140 to 160gr bullets. I played with some H1000 this year and found it did well with 160gr AB's.

In other 7mm rem mags I have found success with other powders: 4831 (H and IMR), IMR 7828 and IMR 4350.

I have been meaning to try Retumbo and RL25 with 160grs, just haven't yet.
