i would like to know what the big deal is with the 3? right now i have a 7mm rem mag , and i am looking at geting a new gun (for deer)" , and real long rage targets (rc car's.trucks) :sniper:

what is the bullet drop at 100-600 yards?
what is the fps ?
what can you get more sizes in?
i dont care on cost and i dont plan on reloading so the belted mag thing i dont care on
what is the big deal in recoil from the 2?

if some one has a pic of them side by side plz post it

so plz let me know witch one is the best (remeber i dont care on the price diff)

Ball park numbers- The 7mm RUM will get about 200 FPS over the 7RM, with most bullet weights.

I sure wouldn't trade a 7RM I liked for a 7mm RUM or 7mm STW. :)

Forget the RUM/RM........STW all the way.

Nothing wrong with the Rem Mag though...you'll see a performance advantage with both the RUM and STW but in real word hunting will it make a difference? Likely not....it's just that STWs are cool!

I prefer the 7mmstw over either, but if I didn't reload,I would go with the 7mmremmag,since the factory 7mmstw and 7mm ultramag loads are very limited in selection, and are loaded well below the cartridges potential.

Why stop at 7mm? You need a REALLY big gun. One that stomps at both ends. Look into the .458 Lott. Pretty impressive #'s there. Of if long range is what you are after, I hear the .50 BMG is good for long distance Mule Deer, or more realistic .338 Lapua Magnum. If cost is really no issue, .50 BMG is the way for sure.

Don't listen to Tod, he is being a smart-alec.

well i want some meat left lol , i was looking at the .338 mag , but little over kill for me

Yeah, Tod may be right, the 7mm, yeah, 7mm, ummmm 140 grain, um yeah, 7mm, yeah, RL-22, umm 140 grain, yeah, um, 7mm. Yeah.

When you look at the ballistics charts, it doesn't really make sense until you realize just how much powder it takes to give a slight increase in velocity. When your talking appox 1.5 to 2 inch differences in bullet drop at 300 yards between most quick cartridges, it's not worth it in my opinion. The 7mm Rem Mag will serve you well with less recoil over both the Ultra and STW, will have cheapier, more readily available factory ammo and if you roll your own, give you cheaper brass and less powder consumed.

I had an STW in 1990 built on a Sako TRG-S. Absolutely one of the best rifle/calbre combos I ever owned......

I recently purchased a Rem 700 in 7mm RUM. I was looking for a 7mm RM but this one just happened to be at the right place at the right time and for the right price.

I've had it out twice now. Shoots like a laserbeam. I'm looking forward to some load development and long range shooting with it.

Once I get a decent scope for it, I think 500-600 yards is pretty do-able with this gun. Just hoping to hit 24'' gongs.

On my third STW. It just seems to be and accurate round. All three have been tack drivers. It does go a fair bit faster than a 7 Mag. Is it needed, hardly but more is allways better. I look at it as an excellent Deer, sheep, goat gun. Recoil is slightly less than a properly loaded 300 mag. I use bigger guns for the bigger stuff.

Hey what about a Lazaroni?

let's not confuse this poor bugger too much, the STW already threw him for a loop.

7mm Ultra Mag all the way. Sight it in for 500 yards so you wont have to bother learning your trajectory at all :sniper:
