7mm optimum grains

depends on the type of bullet being used. 140 grain Barnes Triple Shock X, 160 gr Partition, 175 gr sierra boattail....

7m/m bullet

Lately I've used Speer 160 Grand Slam's in front of 63 grains of IMR4831 in my Remington 700. Group into an 1" from the bench. Used them on a couple Whitetails and a good Mulie and a Timber wolf with excellent results. I'd have no hesitation to use them on Elk/Moose. I've used 140 and 150's in the past, but have settled on 160's.
Cheers
Geoff

160gr Nosler Accubond worked great on this moose. Shot at about 200 yards in the boiler room. I doubt he went 5'.

Same for me - a 160 Accubond. Seemed easier than most bullets to work up really accurate loads, plus the SD of the 160's make the 7mm Mag plenty of gun for ANYTHING on this continent plus a bunch of others. Awesome ballistics at long range, great retained energy levels. My favorite caliber, hands down.

I'm trying out the Nosler Etips in 150 gr this year in a SAUM. Haven't killed anything yet, but very accurate, should penetrate similarly to a Barnes TSX.

Either the 175 or the 160, below that, the SD is to low IMHO!

Tell that to the 40 to 50 big game animals that I have killed with 140gr bullets.Bullet construction is far more important than SD.

Are you originally out of Saskatchewan?

Originally yes,but I have lived in Alberta for nearly 30 years.
