7mm PRC - Availability in Canada

Ammo isn't hard to find. Even the small ma n pa shops in rinky dink small town SK have 7 PRC ammo.
Just shop around for best pricing on it. Cabelas ain't it FYI. They're $10-$15/box more than most shops.

If you keep tabs on a certain firearm/outdoors auction in SK, they usually have ammo in their weekly auction that goes CHEAP. 2 boxes of Hornady Precision Target 180gr ELD-M sold last Sunday for $80 ....so $40/box. Plus tax obviously but still.

The 7PRC ain't going anywhere BUT I do forsee the 7mm BackCountry putting a dent in its sales.

FWIW I sold my 7 PRC. I wasn't all that impressed with it. Strictly cause I didn't want to handload for it, wanted to run factory ammo only. And the velocity was terrible with the Hornady ammo. It shot good but was 200 fps+ under advertised velocity (i'm aware you RARELY see advertised velocity BUT id be okay with 50-80FPS less not 200+) and yes, I had a 24" barrel so don't blame that either.

Ill be ordering a 7mm BackCountry here eventually and giving that a shot. Ammo is about same price as the 7PRC right now. Shorter barrel, higher velocity, whats not to like about it.

The 7 BackCounty will become a FLOP 🫣 JMO RJ

FLOP?? I don't know, but it won't be to its potential in Canada with short barrels and suppressors. Will be a spill over into Canada, but not the potential as in the US.

For me a 22" or 20" barrel should be standard issue, and short is 16"-18", but most of the 7 BC rifles in stock configs for Canada are 22", from what I recall seeing.

Just like when everyone said the 300 wsm was going to be a flop....or the 270 wsm......or the 6.5 Creed......

We all know your hot n bothered over the 7 PRC RJ, and thats fine, but how many guys said the 7 PRC would flop cause we already have a 7mm Rem Mag, or the SAUM? Or the WSM? the 7PRC is still here, not cause of performance, accuracy etc, cause it doesn't do anything the other 3 cals I listed does, but because of MARKETING which Hornady is the best at, is the sole reason its taken off.

If Hornady released the 7BC instead of the PRC, guys would be praising Hornady more then they already are.......

And Europe, gotta remember those guys NEED suppressors there. We're just stuck in 1980 here in Canada cause Great Grandpas Cousins Uncles Brothers 30-06 "does the job just fine" which is true, but instead of looking at innovation and technology, guys dont want change. Imagine if our ancestors refused to buy a tractor cause their horse drawn plow did the job just fine and refused change....

I still stand by my statement, the 7BC just changed the whole firearms world. Imagine if you could run these peak alloy cases in your 30-06 and get 300 win mag performance (or even better?) out of it at a 30-06 ammo price? I'd put money this is already in the works and we see it in the next few years.

The issue is efficient reloading with 7BC. And on top of that, tarrifs will most likely make it even less desired here in Canada. For most cartridges we have non us options, for 7bc not so much. Don't get the appeal of a 16inch barrel if you can't shoot suppressed.

I do like my 7PRC and from my understanding Lapua will be making brass for it, which will only make it more popular. And I was getting 2850 out of a 24" barrel with 175eldx factory ammo, and barrel isn't even broken in yet. Which I can live with, and pretty sure I'll hit 3000 if I reload with n568 or n570.

Federal put a video out on how to reload it. Obviously there might (I say that cause it is new) be some kinks to iron out, but from what i've seen the whole reloading thing is being blown way out of proportion. And if you've ever tried to carry a 24 or 26 inch barrel through thick bush hunting you'd understand why a 16-18" barrel is extremely nice to have. I carried my 300 win mag with a 26" for few elk hunts, and it was not fun, barrel was consistently getting snagged on branches and trees, making noise, having to re-adjust to get through the bush etc, it was more of a pain then anything. But there is no point in running a 16-20" barrel on a 300 win mag or you might as well shoot a 30-06

And the tariffs wont affect the cost of Hornady ammo, Hornady bullets, brass, powder etc etc etc?? The only things it wont affect would be European supplies such as Lapua, Norma and Vihtavuori. And again, my point, you can do that with a standard 7mm Rem Mag if you reload. I do reload but for the 1-2 boxes of shells a year I go through with ALL my rifles, why bother if you can get factory ammo. I reload my wildacts and 257 wby, thats it. Which is why I wanted to try the 7 PRC and sold it cause I wasn't impressed with the velocity of it.

I don't want to hijack this thread, the bottom line is 7 PRC is readily available across Canada and if thats what the OP wants then i'm sure it will suit his needs fine. Ive never walked into a shop and not seen a box of it siting on the shelf, 7mm projectiles are a dime a dozen, primers are coming back and brass/dies are easy enough to get (y)

No, we're stuck in 1980 because our government won't pass gun legislation that isn't insane. - dan

It's a great round but it was built around Alliant Reloader 26 powder which is unobtainable.
Do you own and shoot a 7 PRC 🤷🏼‍♂️ lots of readily available powders to make the 7 PRC shoot Well out there !
H1000 - Grand - LRT - Retumbo - N565 - Magpro - N568 - N570 are all good powders and will produce good velocities and Accuracy with the right bullet . BUT RL 26 does Shine 🤩 RJ

Hi all,

I'm looking at acquiring my first rifle with the (eventual) goal of shooting out to long-range (1000+ yards). I'm very interested in the 7 PRC, despite all its quirks. It seems like a fantastic cartridge for long-range and has a bit of ass behind it as compared to 6.5 CM.

It's been a couple of years since the 7 PRC was released. Wondering how any 7 PRC shooters here (hunters or otherwise) have found factory ammo availability? Has it improved, stayed the same, or diminished? Much of the US shooting community has had a lot of faith that its availability would increase over time. But what about in Canada?

Think the 7 PRC is here to stay?
Hello,
I've just received my new Bergara B-14 Squared Crest Carbon: 7 PRC, and haven't shoot it yet.
I'm in the Montreal region and there are not lots of ammunition availability now, but I am sure this will change.
Found a place on the south sure with Hornady 7mm PRC Ammunition.
I'm looking for a scope now.

I am pretty happy with the hornady factory ammo. Mainly shot 175eldx and it was overkill on some deer. Handsized exit hole :) but dropped on the spot, and didn't lose too much meat.
