7MM Rem Mag suggestions

So I've decided to purchase a 7MM Rem Mag. Not quite sure where to start.

What models/price point should I be looking at?

Obviously I would prefer to be on the cheaper side, but with the sheer variance in prices, I wouldn't mind knowing exactly what I would be getting if I invested... 400? 800? 1000+?

What are your experiences with these types of rifles?
 
I picked up a Weatherby Vanguard and its damn accurate. Smooth action and a decent trigger too. I think the new ones are MOA certified.
 
The rifles off the shelf nowadays are all decent value for the money.

I would take a hard look at a Win Model 70 fwt.

Its a matter of preference for the most part. Do you have the ability to go with friends to try some of their rifles to see if there are features (or gun fit) that you like?
 
This being in the precision rifle forum i would say look for a 700 sendero, comes with a proper stock and heavy fluted barrel. Only made in magnum calibers so its purpose built for what you want. I would change the trigger but leave the rest as is.
 
I think there are around 4 or 5 different models of 7mm Rem Mags for the Rem 700 series. What is the major difference?

Also has anyone had any experience with the Thompson Venture?
 
I've gotta ask, what is your intended purpose for this rifle?

Myself, I've only owned 7mm's for hunting and they've been light rifles. Not what you're going to want if you'll be laying prone or benching the rifle for long range paper punching.

FWIW my two favorite 7's have been a Rem 700 SPS Stainless and a Weatherby Vanguard Stainless Sporter (original series). Both rifles came in around the $700 mark.

The Remington had the better trigger but I've since read that Weatherby has addressed the issue with a new trigger on the Series 2 Vanguards.

Edit: To try to answer your question about the different Rem 700 models, they're mostly just different combo's of barrel and stock materials. SPS's are synthetic, CDL's are wood and they both have options for either SS or blued barrels. Same triggers in both lines. There are a couple rifles offering the X-Mark trigger like the BDL and Mountain SS/LSS. I believe the only other option from them is the Sendero that was made for the long-range/wild-cat hunting crew. These are different beasts all together. Heavy barrel, target type stock and weight to tame the magnums.

This I think is your best bet for the money. It's not great but it's pretty good to get going
 
Savage international trophy hunter, accutrigger, excellent accuracy, good scope to put on your favorite .22 and some $$ left to get a good scope and some ammo to try out and see what it likes.

Model 10 is a very good shooter as well but runs about 800 bux.

My experience with the newer Remington 700s steers me away from that route, buddy of mine likes his Sako but I have no experience with that rifle and I find the Vanguard is expensive for what you actually get. JMO :)
 
I just traded for a 1998 Remington 700 sendero,in 7mm mag,HS stock. All I can say is WOW, wish I would have bought one long ago
 
Remington had a m700 sps long range hunting it had a synthetic free floated stock with a grey web to it but they seam to have removed them from the site they were long action magnum calibre for 700$
 
I had a sendero also it was better than the 1200 bucks I payed for it. I shot 168 bergers out of it until it didn't shoot so good. It now has an 8 twist kreiger 30" barrel with a blueprinted action a rail and a nightforce 5.5-20 nxs scope. I have had lots of fun shooting this rig. Ignore the people that tell you 7mm rem mag is no good for long range.

I am trying out 180gr Berger Hybrids. They are frickin' awesome in my Sendero! Looking forward to stretching their legs.
 
I am using 180 bergers in my krieger they are better than the 168vld. I like the easy seating depth. I just went 15 thousands off the lands and they just shot perfect. Try H4831SC man it has been working great for me. Other powders probably work well too but that choice has been working great.
 
If this is the case a 7-08 or 7 x 57 if you want to stay with a 7mm and save your shoulder at the range.Save a few ounces and physical size as well on the rifle.

As for rifle, the one that fits you the best is the one you choose.

For strictly hunting , 7RM is just fine.

Again just my opinion and a suggestion.
