I just bought some .284 cal 162 gr Hornady ELD-X bullets. In the past I shot 162 gr interloc bullets with 65 gr. ofH4831 for years out of my 7mm rem mag. stainless sako75 with no pressure signs. Hornady is saying a max load of 59.7 grains with H4831??? That seems like a huge difference for the same weight bullet. I know to start low and work up! Does anyone have a comparison using ELD-X bullets and another bullet the same weight with the same powder?? I would be interested in seeing what you found?? I have not measured the contact surface of the ELD-X vs the contact surface of the interloc yet. Maybe there is alot more contact on the ELD-X???

Thanks

The eld-x is a very long bullet so that might have something to do with it. I find hornady data to be on the low side sometimes and usually just go to hodgdon data site and use that data.

Hodgedon manual says a max load for 162 gr bullet with H4831 64.0 gr starting at 60.0. A little better. At the time I worked up a load max was 66.0 gr.???

Yes but you are not using their test barrel, lot of powder, lot of primer, and lot of bullet. You are also not shooting at the same temp, and altitude as the load testing was done.
