My dad's looking for a recipe that will duplicate the Hornady factory load of 3030fps. Does anyone already have this information? He's leaving to go elk hunting in 3 weeks and has decided to start reloading for this calibre.

162 gr SST is the ony bullet I use for my 7mm Rem mag. My recipe is 60 gr of H4350 with muzzle velocity at approx 2930 fps. Depending on the gun and the shooter...my Remington 700 SS gives me this result at 210 meters (range finder):

Try H4831 or RL22 or one of the other likely culprits, check a factory round to get seating depth, then work up to the velocity you want. Easy peesy.

Use RL 22. Start at 63 grains and work up. My 700 Classic gave me 3050 at 67 grains.
No pressure issues that I could discern.

The first cartridge I ever started loading for (at the end of the 1980s) was the 7mm Remington Magnum. The first handload I ever put together was 61.5 (or 62) grains of IMR 4831 behind a Hornady 162 grain BTSP. I didn't know it then but I had accidentally stumbled upon one of the all-time great loads for that cartridge. In fact, as the years went on, that load became the first I tried when testing a rifle in 7mm Remington Magnum because it seemed to be universally excellent. If this load didn't work with the rifle, then I figured there was a problem with the rifle itself, or the scope.

Depending upon the rifle, I've seen it give velocities between 2,950 to 3,050. It also shoots 1 m.o.a. or better, depending upon the rifle.

I found IMR 4831 to be a great powder for this cartridge, and the reloading manuals also recommend it. The other magnum powders (Reloder 22, H4831, N560 etc.) are also excellent.

Ive been useing RL 19 in the 65gr range in my Ruger.Im useing 140gr Nosler Ballistic tips.My group is great.A 5 round string made two holes ,I pulled one about 1/4" to the top left
