Just getting in to loading for my 7mm RM. Was thinking about working up a load for moose (160 Nosler Partition), deer (140 accubond) and a cheap/recuced recoil round for the range.

Any advice on what loads you have had success with. Is it worth working up separate loads for moose and deer or should I just get a good 160 load and stick with it. Also, hunt for Blacktails occasionally and am a bit concerned that the accubond might be a bit much for them???

H869 looks promising. H870 was great. AA8700 is good, as is RL22.

If it were me, I'd stick with the 160's for everything, so you don't have to worry about different POI's. A 160 Partition won't mangle a deer, a 140 accubond might - they're known to be rather explosive at higher speeds.

I've had good results with 160g and 175g Partitions and RL-25.IMR 4831 seems to work well with the 160's aswell (for me).I say work well, meaning accuracy and consistancy,I have yet to take any game with either of these bullets.
I dont have my load data available right at the moment.

It's hard to beat a 160 Partition with about 64-66 grains of Reloder 22 or Norma MRP in the 7mm Mag. My 24" 700 Classic gets around 3080 fps and shoots under moa cosistently [Start low and work up safely] Regards, Eagleye.

I find it makes more sense to stick with one bullet for everythign these days, unless yourelalywan tto go experiment.

A 160gr Partition, Accubond or X bullet woudl do everythign that you may ask of your 7RM.

Iz it a little overkill on deer? Sure. But who cares? It's probabaly better int he long run to work up a hunting load and spenmd your tim pracitcing with your chaep load than working up multiple loads for multiple bullets.

Although, I certainly have doen that enough:redface:

It does give you experience in developing handloads, and that isn't a bad thing.:) Some guys like to handload, some liek to shoot, and some liek to hunt....

I shot a button buck (Blacktail) last season with a 160gr Accubond. The bullet hit behind the shoulder and meat damage was minimal. I was using IMR7828.

I've been using 175grn grandslams.

no complaints, last moose I shot just folded up. Deer it makes a good hole in and they don't go far, no matter where you hit them.

I may change to noslers when I run out

Stick to one bullet, one load

160 gr. Partition or Accubond 160 gr. over H4831sc, RL22, IMR 7828, H1000, RL25.

Whatever powder gets you the best accuracy around 2950-3000 fps, use it. WIcked killing load.

I had a good accurrate 7 Rem Mag a few years back that really liked 67 grs of IMR4350 under a 140 Ballistic Tip...shot like a house afire..fast and accurrate...
start lower and work up.....

Steady, I just tried some Hornady interbond 154gr's in a rifle I got from M1garandfather. I used WW brass, CCI 250 primers and H4831SC powder.
65gr: 3012, 3011, 3014 and it shot moa in fairly breezy conditions.
That is the tightest extreme spread I have ever seen in my shooting with a chrony and you can bet I will be tinkering with this load some more.

I went one grain higher but the extreme spread grew quite alot as did the group.

I would agree with sticking to one load for one gun too, when that monster buck comes out in front of you, there is no time to double check which load you are running. Find one good one and it will work for near everything.

Please make sure you work up to the 65gr, your firearm may be throated shorter than this European rifle is.

Hope this helps,
Noel

My personal preferance for my 7mm RM

Federal Large Magnum Rifle Primers
66 grains 4831 IMR
Nosler Ballistic Tip 150gr Spitzers
case sized and trimmed to correct length
bullet seated to max overall length

Have had no problem taking moose with this load up to 700 yrds, to date,:D

My rifles love Re25 although it is not the easiest powder to find. I use Lee collet neck sized Rem brass, Re25, Fed 215m primers, moly coated 162gr SST's and Amax for LR plinking.

Stick to one load...

I had a 7mm mag for a while, it was a Sako 75. I shot 160 gr Accubonds over reloder 22 with CCI magnum primers. I kept loading powder until I hit 3000 fps. In my rifle that was 64.5 grs. The load was very accurate and flat shooting.

I use IMR 7828 with a 160 gr Barnes x bullet . I use 61.0 grs of IMR 7828 for deer and bump it up to 65.0 grs for moose and elk . Joe

Why not just use the 65 gr load all the time? The deer isn't going to notice anything different, and you dont' have to muck around with 2 loads using the same bulet and powder..
