What sort of bullet weights will a 7mm rem mag perform? My Tikka and sendero do well with 139 commercial horadys. What weight would be optimal for an elk or moose?

I have always felt that the 160/162 grain bullets were optimal for the 7mm Rem Mag. I have shot a fair bit of game, including Elk & Moose with the 160 Partition, and it has always performed flawlessly. There are some 7mm Mags with lazy twist rates that do not always stabilize bullets above 150 grains, but they are relatively uncommon. Generally speaking, in a 24" barrelled 7mm Rem Mag, the 160 will get you 3000 - 3075 fps with the 160 using the correct slow burning powder. Regards, Eagleye.

Just to be different I really like the 150TSX. Haven't used it in a 7mag but my 280AI loves them at 3050 fps. Also haven't found a game animal that's large enough to stop one. And if they provide more than adequate penetration, what's to gain by running a heavier bullet?

P.S. I expect the 140, and even the 120 TSX, would perform exactly the same. But Gatehouse already recommended the 140 TSX, and what the hell does he know? :D

The 160 Nosler Partition always gave excellent results in any 7 mag I have owned. Barnes bullets can be finicky and some don't get very good accuracy with them.

I have found the same with Partitions...from now on I'll use nothing but TSX's or Accubonds in anything that I'll point at a game animal...OK,maybe I'll try ETips or the tipped TSX's...whatever they are called...

With the older generation X bullets I found that often the case, XLC's in particular gave too many fliers. The TSX, on the other hand, is consistently one of the most accurate bullets I have ever tried. Also an absolutely phenomenal game bullet.

Chalk up another vote for 160 gr. Currently trying TSX's with great results on the first animal I took with it. I did use 175gr. Partitions when in grizz country but now just pack a .338 WM instead. From my experiences, with velocities generated with a 160 gr. or lighter bullet you do need a premium bullet.
