Well first time with the new toy, its a model 700 rem mag with the titanium barrel, done up by mitch kendell here in kamloops. Now its the first time i have loaded for a magnum, I full sized the cases, they fit into the chamber well. I top them off with 162 gr interlocks, down to the cannelure, they jam into what i thought was the lands. Take the bullet out, no marks, but cant close bolt. seat deeper, close bolt easily. Now i am not crimping the rounds i have done primarily now because its being seated deeper then the cannelure. So then i take another round, seat it to the same depth, now that one wont chamber, the bolt wont close down. seat DEEPER, a little sticky but goes down.
I tried some winchester brass from the box (factory) and about 3-4 of every box dont chamber easily.
Help!! (Its a sub moa gun at 100m with factory ammo, the rounds that do chamber!)

I have heard of some Remingtons having some rough chambers how does the brass
look after chambering do you have some pic's are there marks on the brass .

I can take pics of the brass but as far as looking, i dont see anything significant at the head of the cartridge. I painted the mouth black with marker to see if anything was touching, there was a mark on the bullet (a single 1/8 inch slice of sorts) to one side of it but not on any other side, and nothing on the head or neck. I will take a photo of one chambered without a bullet, one with today.

What is the length of your empty case? Is it under the max length? If too long your overall length will be too long.

Is your sizing die set at least a quarter turn past, when the shellholder makes contact with the die..Did you talk to the smith about what reamer he used? Titanium barrel???

i think they are called ti ti, titanium coated somehow? anyways i put the ram up till the case touches the inside, then back it off about a turn for bullet seating. for resizing i put it down, then about 1/2 turn past for the cam over. the oal seems to be within specs!

So is it a custom barrel, rechambered barrel, takeoff barrel or what??? I am on confused on what you have..as far as reloading everything sounds pretty good..what type of dies, used new? and don't use brass fired from another rifle,, if your not thats good..new brass should go in no problem after being resized.

Its called a mitch kendal custom, as far as i know he did lightweight hunting barrels for the heavier calibers. As far as how the barrels came, custom, he milled them or otherwise, i really dont know, this is a 3rd party gun i think since him. The only brass i am using has already been shot in the gun, by me a few days ago. This also makes me scratch my head:mad: because it worked once, now instead of 3 of 20 not working, now its 1 of every 3 that i resized that isnt working. just heading to the dungeon to take another closer look.

Got me on this one..maybe a burr in the chamber..have you gave it a real good cleaning?

ok so i thought i had it, Winchester brass was jammin it, rem seemed ok. Case length after sizing was only .020 off or so. basically what i have is a case length of 2.495 being the most consistent. these fit into the chamber no problem. then i cap them with 162gr up to the cannelure. Tonight, i fed a rem cartridge through after capping the bullet, and it pushed the bullet even deeper into the shell before chambering!!! it gave me oal of 3.309 after chambering. then i tried to bump my seater to give this OAL, and the next case didnt chamber at all. OAL on that is 3.306, case length is the same as the one that chambered.
I am fricking confused. Must it be the belt at the primer side of the case or the head? i dont see any unusual markings on the head, all i know right now is my .223 is a hell of a lot more forgiving and fun!!!

sorry you answered as i did. I didnt give it a bath in solvent yet but i did run a brush just a couple of times with the breach protector, using 7.62 solvent. not an overly good job at all, just enough to see the barrel wasnt all that dirty... its worth a shot i will go down and give her a good scrub down now.

Max OAL for 7mm rem mag is 3.290, isn't it? Maybe the cannelures on your bullets aren't made for the 7mm rem mag and their ogives are hitting your rifling?

Wild guess: Your seating die is set down too far in the press, causing it to push the neck down into the shoulder slightly flattening it, and bowing out the shoulder where it meets the body. Ask me how I know, I've done it a couple of times in different calibers using dies the first time round.

If yes, solution is raise the die up a little higher and drop the pin down lower to suit the length of finished round you desire.

Try raising your seater die some more..and don't use the "can a what ever" on the bullet for seating depth..I hate those things.
Look in your reloading manual and try the OAL as suggested..that may work.
It seems from what you have said that your dies are set okay..but try it anyway..

so after a bath, brush etc i tried a spent casing, already chambered and fired from this gun with no issues. this casing again DID NOT chamber!! i am scratching my head thinking a lack of air in the garage was screwing with me. well then i again tried to chamber it, by pushing on the bolt it finally "smacked" to chamber and lock. i withdrew the round and now noticed markings on the head rim, 45 degree scratches. closer looking, it may be the extractor claw that left the marks. i know this thread moves further from reloading but i appreciate the suggestings fully!!

Sorry don't know if you tried this but does factory rolled ammo fit?
I reload 7mm and have found it a rather easy caliber to reload. I full length size and trim brass thats not been through my rifle once before. Seat the bullet to the specs in a reloading manual.
