These are mags you either hate or love, I for one like the rums.
Just wondering (with caution) of course what have you guys gotten out of the 7mm Rums for velocity.
I have 2 of them running 160 gr in one and am pushing 3350 with it backed off, and the other I am maxing them out. Just shot a 3 group avg with it with 140g Interbonds, at avg 3566 with not psi signs with 93.5 gr or RL-25.
Will push it harder next week may be into 94s or 94.5 to see what I can get hope a 3600+.

I would hope 1500 shots if cleaned and not over heated. There performance is way over looked for what they are, however it is true about burning powder they consume there fair share and are unificient, but once you get over that they do perform. Some guys claim they get the same out of or from the 7mm STW but I have not seen it but possible i guess and more easier on powder, only the lazzi I have seen will surpass it at 3750 fps.
I just recieved a email from a friend about pushing there limits and it has been seen that they can tickle the higher 3670s and push close to 3700 with a Barnes X bullet and slightly up loaded 95-96 gr of RL-25, but I have to see it first.
Like I said I am close to 3600 with no primer or case pressure signs and easy bolt lift. I just don't know how much more powder I can pack in it to get a full burn charge in the barrel.

I have one 7mmultramag,two 300ultramags and two 7mmstws.The 7mmultramag only produces 50fps to 75fps more than the 7mmstw,as it just can't take advantage of the large capacity of the ultramag case.As such I prefer the 7mmstw.On the other hand the ultramag case does seem worthwhile when using the .308" bullets.I am able to produce about 125fps more with the 300ultramags than with the 300weatherby.

What velocities are you getting with yours, and what powder are you burning?
Regards

I am getting about 3550fps to 3575fps using 140gr bullets and h-1000 and r-25.My 7mmstws provide 3500fps or a little better(two rifles) with the same bullet and imr7828..

I've seen a 7mm rem mag pushing 165's at 3300fps, verified over a chrony. No pressure signs, must been a particularly fast barrel.

3300 fps with 150s is hot in a 7mm Rem Mag

I bet pressures were very high in that 165 gr. load, despite no apparenent 'high pressure' signs

Oh, I have very little doubt that they were above SAAMI specs. But there were none of the classic 'pressure is too high' signs, primers looked good, glassy bolt opening, no shiny spots, and the brass was good for at least 4 additional reloads. (partial sizing only)

I would not be firing any 7mmremmag that produced 3300fps with a 165gr bullet.In fact,I don't know of any 165gr 7mm bullets available to handloaders.3300fps with a 160gr bullet is a hot load for a 7mmstw.

I didn't believe it either, until I made him put a few rounds over MY chrony, and let me check for pressure signs myself....

FWIW, you're right, they were 160 Partitions

I would definitely have to see those numbers on more than one chronograph before accepting them as true.I have seen high readings on chronys with some light conditions.

3300 fps with a 160gr bullet in a 7mm RUM is the fastest listed max load at 63K psi you will find.

In a 7mm Rem Mag, you must be at 80K+. Congratulations, you should call Guiness and Darwin while you can.

he must be packing them in tight! I have a hard time getting those with my Rum, but never pushed a 160gr bullet that hard due to pressure.
I was talking 3560 with a 139 gr Interbond or 140 X bullet. And I know I am above the 60K, but not going to push it to much more. Just wondering if I or anyone Safley has seen 3600 from the Rums with a 140 grainer.
