Since were talking about 7mm's so much lately I have always wondered how well the 7mm SAUM would work out of a 24" barrel. Is it like most magnums were longer is better when it comes to the barrel or can a guy get almost all the potential out of the cartridge with 24"?

Remington used to make a Sendero in the SAUM cartridges with 26" tubes

I had a 24" BDL SS in 7saum, it was plenty fast. 120 grainers to 3350 fps, 140s @ 3150, 154's @ 3050, 175 @ 2800. Great cartridge

Burns less powder than the 7mm Mag for the same power, makes a lot of sense to me folks. The SAUM's a better cartridge than the 7mm WSM, as it doesn't have the shoulder "artificially" bumped forward shortening the neck like the WSM to prevent chambering in .270 WSM chambers. Better case to reload than the WSM by a hair, if you ask me. ...and if you can have a more efficient 7mm Mag in a short action, why not! Then again my go to gun's now a .375 H&H, not exactly state of the art and less efficient than the .375 Ruger, so I see both sides of the fence. I just don't agree with the calling of new, and good cartridges useless and redundant, they're not.

In other words,no better than 7mmremmag ballistics with a 24" barrel.

nope, but also not much worse. And it fit in a SA 700. I shouldn't of sold that rifle, it was great. It was rare for a group to be over 1", didnt matter if it was 100 gr Hornady HP over Varget or 175 gr Partitions over Retumbo. Very unfussy
