7mm stw

Not fightin words, just don't like someone implying my loads are too hot. This is the same load I've used in all three of my STWs. My buddy shoots the same load in his. Brass life is good and it seems to work with TSXs, Noslers and even Hornady 162s. I was a little cranky when I posted that the other day, no doubt 140s will punch holes in game. I just preffer 160s in the big case.

Max Data for 160 gr. Data shows 92.5 Grains for H-870 and 90 Grains for US 869 ? If US 869 is the same or a little slower could I not keep working up to 92.5 (my logic says yes). Ive already worked up to 90 gr. with no issues. Velocity is not as good as I thought.

Alright, US869 Gives me 3100 at the published max (90 gr.) I can probably go a few grs higher but Ill never equal the speed that other powders can give me.

I guess Ill give IMR-7828 a try for 160's, anybody care to share some load data for that combo ?

I was out working up a load with 139 gr bullets this weekend with RL-22

I worked up to 82 gr. and I noted a top speed to 3617 FPS !!! I was fairly cold out for this time of the year (2 C) and I was wondering if my Chrony was acting up so I shot some 140gr. bullets out of my 6.5x55 and they came back as 2700 (give or take) fps.

I decided to shoot some factory 7mm stw remington 140 gr. ammo as a control group to measure data and they averaged around 3530 or so. I check Remington's website and they claim 3330 fps !

Nothing special about this rifle its Remington 700 with a 26" tube (rechambered). Im gonna double check these speeds next weekend I still dont' believe it. I kept thinking that the muzzle blast was affecting the chrony so I kept moving it away and away.

I didn't get any actual signs of high pressure just the usual remington craters that I also get with factory ammo. I was told its not a big deal and if it really bothers me I could get the firing pin hole bushed.
