Can anyone inform me who makes this calibre of rifle? From the manuals it appears like a screamer. In the quest for increased velocities would it be a good purchase?

Don't know who's chambering it now but its a great round. I'm on my third and its about the perfect Deer gun for where I hunt.

The STW has long been one of my enthusiasms, but we started shooting it as a wildcat. Starting fresh today, I'd look at the 7mm Ultra mag.
The STW has the endearing trait of being able to hold on the center of a deer sized animal and take it from zero to way over 400 yards. No muss, no fuss,no laser range finders, no designer reticles, no turrets, no nothing. What's not to like?

I have built a few of them... they work better with 28 inch barrels... real easy to re barrel your present 700 Magnum. :D

You know that the 7mm STW is basically the 8mm Remington Magnum necked down to 7mm right? They do kick a little bit more than a 7mm Remington Magnum but shoot alittle faster. Brass is harder to come by and your going to have to get one chamber by a gunsmith as no new current production rifles are chambered for this round. You can always wait and see if one pops up in the EE forum.

You can also choose from 7mm Remington Magnum, 7mm WSM, 7mm Remington Short Action Ultra Magnum, 7mm Remington Ultra Magnum or a 7mm Weatherby Magnum. Just to name a few more options. All of which are currently chambered in current prodution models.

What are the advantages of the RUM and Saum? I have some 7mm rem mag and one 7mm wby mag.

Differences

The SAUM is Remingtons answer to Winchesters 7mm WSM. Thay are designed to fit in short action rifles and give you magnum performance. They also deal you more kick. The RUM is currently the fastest production 7mm out there from what I've read in my reloading books. Don't worry I'm sure someone is working on a 7mm-378 Weatherby.

One other nice feature about the RUM is that they will be producing power level ammo for it just like the 300 RUM. Power one is the lowerest, power two being a step up and power three being full house loads.

For the 300 RUM they listed it as power one = 30-06 performance, power two = 300 WM and WSM performance, and power three is just plain full power.
Remington was already working on the 7mm RUM ammo but I have not seen any more info on the website.

Blaser

Well Blaser may still offer it but man how much are you going to pay for it and how long of a wait? You would be better off just buying a used 7mm Rem Mag and converting that to your 7mm STW. It would be cheaper and you could get it down pronto.

Easy, I was just pointing out that there was a factory option.......not all facts are a conspiracy.

Personally I wouldn't own a Blaser but I'm sure that ther are loads of people that like them and have the money and time to wait! Not for me to say. I'm quite pleased with my Sako.

I've got one of the original Sendero's. Fantastic piece of gear. I'm pretty sure you can still get factory brass from Rem and Win. I think it's a shame it hasn't been kept as a factory standard, as it's a dandy.

There must be a lot of them out there as it's still easy to find factory loads. I agree that it's one of the best hunter-friendly long-range calibres out there.

The only reason remington and winchester quit chambering it was to eliminate competition with their proprietary rounds. I've never heard of anyone claiming an ultramag was more accurate than the stw though.

Makes you wonder why Sako would drop it though......
