Just noticed on Savage's Website that they dont offer the 7mmWSM in any of there rifle's anymore.
Looks like the 7wsm is on its way out like everyone figured???

300 and 270 are both alive and well no doubt about it!!

Way too many cals. that are virtually the same, .284 Win.,7mm Saum,280rem and AI, 7mm WSM, 7mmRem., 7mm Wea.,7mmSTW, etc. Most of this is marketing BS and I'm not surprised that some are falling by the wayside. Yet there are some very good rifles/calibers that are lacking for factory production, such as .450 and .50 Alaskan. bring back the 50-110win., .348 Win., .405 win., .218 Bee,.222 rem.(these last 2 are inexpensive gopher killing machines)...OK Rant off!!!

I bought the 7WSM a couple years ago in a X-Bolt. I knew full well I was buying the "Black Sheep" of the wissums. It's a very accurate gun, and the cartridge can kill just as good as any other. Sad to see it slip to the wayside, but I'm not surprised. It does the exact same thing as the 7 Rem Mag, and when it comes to a competition between the two [in terms of marketing and popularity] the 7RemMag isn't going to get knocked out! It's too popular! It's like hoping the .280 will overtake the .270... not going to happen. Oh well. It's a good thing I handload.

Lame duck nothin'.

Sure the .270 & .300 WSM's have basically taken the field.

But there's nothin' wrong with a rifle in 7mm WSM either.

In fact it's the only WSM I'd like to play with.

Anyway, not surprized that it has been dropped from the Savage listings.

Corporate decision, they have to go with what sells the most & keep the profit margins there, to satisfy the share holders, especially in this economy.... It's not driven by whether it's a good ctg at the end of the day.

My 02..... you mileage may differ.... ;)

NAA.

Yeah, it suffered due to being released last. The people REALLY wanting a short action magnum middleweight already snapped up the .270 WSM when it came out, the 7mm WSM didn't offer a whole lot more that the .300 couldn't cover. So the .270 and .300 had good uptake int he market, 7mm languished on the shelves and finally got dropped. Every bit as good as the other two, but lacking in sales. So it's gone the way of the Remington SAUMs.

"...Corporate decision..." Yep. If something doesn't meet the marketing department's sales projections, the manufacturers will drop it. It's not so bad when it's something you can still get ammo and brass for, but some proprietory or new cartridges and/or firearms get dropped with no regard for the customers who bought the thing.
If you buy anything chambered in a new cartridge, buy as much brass as you can afford too. Even if you don't reload.

The 7mm WSM is the best of the WSM's...it boggles the mind how the 270 can overtake it in sales.....I've owned both the 7SAUM and the 7WSM...may have to get another just to be different....

All about marketing. The .270 WSM was the only one of the WSM rounds which offered a definite improvement (shorter and faster) over the round it was compared to (.270 Win) from a marketing standpoint. The 7mm WSM didn't offer anything over a 7mm Remington Magnum aside from being shorter. And from the get-go it seemed as though Winchester and Browning had .270's on the shelves first and in higher quantities, and the ammo was cranked out to match the rifle production. I know for a fact when I wanted one I could have had my choice from 4 different models of .270 in stock or wait for a 7mm to arrive.

The .270 was just positioned to succeed. The 7mm was not. Read this and tell me if the article isn't just a little biased:

Cranked out and the price "cranked up"!
270 WSM ammo around here is almost $60 a box. Good thing I reload.

Leave us not to forget the Rem. 700 in .243...hell of a cartridge, and will do anything asked of it up to 264# Deer, and reach out to over 300 yds for the clean ground hog shot....
