Attached are pics of my new 7Mystic 10lbs 1000m BR rifle. Set up for the fun shoots in Osoyoos and for LR hunting. The stock is a modified factory Stevens stock built up to work in 3" wide front rests. The rifle specs are as follows:

Action: Stevens 200. Orig in 270. Bolt has been tuned to remove that annoying jump before opening the bolt fully. Bolt handle is not the oversized tactical version.

Barrel: Shilen SS Select Match, 7mm 9 twist, fluted with integral muzzle brake. Rifled length is 24". Overall just a smidge over 26". Machining on threads is BR tight. Zero slop when installed. Nice machining and almost too tight.

Trigger: Rifle Basix Sav 2 tuned down to about 6ozs. Very crisp with no overtravel. A great match trigger for this platform.

Optics: Base is a 20MOA Farrel. Rings are Burris Sig w/ inserts med height. Just high enough to clear bell. Elite 4000 4X16 - 50 scope set at 10X for the event. Sunshade will come in useful.

Stock: Modified Stevens factory stock with Limbsaver recoil pad. 3" wide forend with flat bottom. Discussed this mod in another post. May mod the rear if it doesn't ride the bags well enough. Texture and colour comes from 'stone' spray paint with a clear top coat. If you ever need to hide a lot of surface defects, this is the paint to use. Very forgiving but not durable so use a clear top coat.

Rifle has already shown the potential to shoot in the 1's at 100yds. Now to see how it works at 1000m. Recoil is mild and hopefully that wide forend will keep it from rolling for better recoil manners.

Ardent, it will be at the shoot in APRILLLLLLLL (quiet enough LRC??).

The 7Mystic is based on a 30-06 case necked down and improved. Case capacity is slightly larger then a 280AI but a snick less then the 7 Gibbs. The case volume is within spitting distance of the 7RSAUM (and yes, I used this case to base my load data on).

This rifle seems to have two throttle settings when launching 162gr molied Amax- 2950 and 2850fps. Only one combo of powder and primers has reached the higher vel with accuracy (H4350 and Fed 210m) but several combos work at the lower velocity.

Still early days in the testing due to the winter, but I expect excellent 1000m performance. Goal is 1/2MOA at that range. For an inexpensive rig, that level of performance is acceptable. Short range testing for accuracy and velocity show promise.

Neck deep in renos so range report will be off for a few more weeks. The orig report is still on this page and will give you the general background on this cartridge and rifle.

I don't expect any surprises either short or long range. I would like to get it to a consistent 1/4MOA rig. There have certainly been smaller groups at 100yds, but the key is consistent accuracy not a 'hero' group.

Will post results as I get a chance to go to the range.

Basically, it will take a 162gr moly Amax to 2950fps (slower sweet spot is 2850fps). With a case capacity almost the same as a RSAUM, that is not surprising. Running with H4350, Fed 210M primers, in prepped PMC '06 brass. Will be switching to Fed GM brass just to see what happens.

Thanks for the continued interest.

Yes, that was your 270. Except for the action/bolt, little else is the same.

Worked out really well.

......... My God man, i didn't ship that too long ago!!! You sure didn't waste anytime. Glad you got to do what you wanted with it!!!:)

I have gotten a few PM's so will put this info here.

Yes, the barrel was installed by me in the garage sans lathe. The Savage/Stevens rifle use a barrel nut to lock the barrel to the action. This and the way the chambers/end of barrel are cut allows anyone, with a little care and common sense, to headspace a barrel at home.

It is a very simple process, and as long as care is taken to ensure headspace is correct, allows you to play with a variety of barrels using the same action.

Allows you to buy prechambered and prethreaded barrels to swap at home. Saves a lot of time and costs.

Get some bolt heads or complete bolts and you can be swapping between a 223, 7 or 6.5Mystic, all the way to a 300RUM/338 Lapua in the same afternoon at the range with the same action and stock.

Some would be single feed of course, but it is possible.

Savage worked with Lazzaroni to make a limited run of the super big cartridges. They have also make some CRF rifles in bigger boomers.

Quite a history of stuff and chamberings.

The magnum bolt face could also be opened up to work with the Rigby cases.

Try some Lapua 06 brass expensive but it puts the North American stuff to shame.

Lapua is definitely first rate brass! We only need them to start supplying it in the WSM line..........
