7WSM from a 270 Action???

Hey Guys,
Just wondering what is involved? or if you can cut a Rem 700 270 action to 7WSM and what is involved?
I understand that there would be some issues with the bolt face and am wondering if you need an ultra mag action or not?

Also wondering if it would be beneficial to just get the barrel chambered for 280AI instead?

Does anyone know the availability of a mountain contour barrel in .284?

BNe easier to just get a 7WSM rifle, or have it rebarreled to 280, as you suggested.

Seeing as the 270 barrel you have is actually .277 calibre, you would either have to put on a 7mm (.284) barrel or have the existing one rebored to .284. Hardly worth it with having to open up the bolt face and receiver rails for the fatter cartridge. As Gatehouse points out, you would be further ahead to find one already chambered for the WSM.

this would be cheaper than rebarreling your 270......lots of times it's not worth it to rebarrel.

Well it's a Ti and I don't want to get rid of the action. Looking to upgrade the barrel and ballistics.

No doubt. I'm lucky enough to have 2, one in 270 and one 30-06. They are like gold bricks these days.

Build the 280 Ack. Screw the barrel off the 270 and go get a good after market barrel. I use Ron Smiths but there's lots to chose from. If your Ti is like gold then you will have the barrel to put it back to original and you haven't messed with the bolt face. The 280 Ack is a fine round you won't be sorry. I shot a 270 for 30 years but pretty much go with one of my 7's now.

I may be wrong but it seems to me that David Henry up in Bentley had an extra Ron Smith barrel in 7mm.

I found a pacnor super match in 7mm but am wondering if anyone has experience with these barrels??
