Would like to here comments regarding the pros and cons of each caliber and which one you would choose and why? Would be used for target shooting(just at the range to 300m), deer, bear and maybe moose.

Thanks

That's comparing 2 great cartridges. There's certainly a good reason the late great Jack O'Conner liked them both so much.

Can't overlook the .280 Remington either. ;)

If you are handloading .. there is no difference in my opinion for the purposes you mention. If you do not handload .. the 270 is a lot more peppy and would be my choice. AP

Go with the .270. If you get off in the boonies for a hunt and find you've left your ammo on the kitchen table, you will be able to find a box of .270 in a small Crappy Tire. You likely won't find 7mm Mauser. Otherwise, it's six of this, half dozen of the other.

7X57 or 270

I would look at the 7-08 because of the size of the receiver. You can have a slightly lighter lighter rifle by using that cartledge, it requires a shorter action.

If you stick to the two 7X57 or 270 I would go with the 7X57. It is slightly heavier than the 270 and if you hand load you can load it hotter. Most 7X57 rounds are loaded down because the 7mm has been around for over a hundred years. There are a pile of Mauser 1895's and some Remington rolling blocks rifles that won't take the hotter loads.

If you go to 7-08 the firearms are built to take higher pressures.
