Not too sure where to put this? I have just received a new 7mm Douglas barrel with a 1:10 twist rate. I want to have this installed on a mauser action and chambered for 7x57 mauser. From what I have been reading, 1:10" twist rate may be a little slow for heavier, longer bullets. Do you think that this twist rate would be Ok up to 150 grain bullets weights?

Cheers,

Rich

A lot of 7mm's have been made using a 10 twist and have worked fine. However the more popular choice today is a 9 twist and may work a bit better with standard 175 grain bullets. You will have no problem with 150 or 160 grain bullets I am sure. The problem may start with 175's in a long boat tail design.

Shilen's twist selection is:
7mm/.284
- 8" for all bullets-customer discretion 180 gr. VLD
- 9" for bullets heavier than 140gr.
- 11" for bullets up to 140gr.
