Just wondering if anyone else uses this cartridge. I've got a custom Browning BBR and my wife has a custom LH Wby Mk V. Deer, moose and elk have been taken with these rifles using Nosler BTs and combined tech ballistic silvertips. We both like this cartridge because it is accurate and recoil is moderate.

An acquaintance inherited a Schultz and Larsen M65 in 7x61 a few years ago - took us a bit of fussing, but we eventually found dies and created 80 plus brass from 7mm Rem Mag brass. He took a Sask farmland moose with a single shot, with that rifle, that fall. Since then, I have acquired a Schultz and Larsen M60 for myself, a healthy supply of 7x61 Super Norma brass and a supply of Norma factory 154 grain loads. Be aware that there is at least 5 grains capacity difference between the original Norma brass (with an "Re" on the headstamp), versus the improved "Super" brass. Outside is identical - all the difference is thinner case walls and shallower case head. All in all, an awesome step up from my 7x57! Phil Sharpe created the cartridge around IMR 4350 powder and 160 grain bullets. Norma's last loading was with 154 grain bullets. We used IMR 4350 and Hornady 154 Spire point bullets.

My first rifle was a Shultzy I love it immensely but rarely use anymore It is retired but man what a cartridge I primarily use a 280AI which I consider its equivalent 4350 is your friend for sure in the 7x61

I have a M65DL in very good condition I haven't had a chance to shoot yet. I've gathered up 80 new Super Norma brass and 24 re brass. Since I don't reload, I'll have to find someone who can for me and then I'll be taking it out hunting. I got drawn for Elk this year and I'd like to take it, but if I can't get rounds loaded I'll take the 7mm mag.

... and they are a very easy conversion to 7MM Rem Mag if you tire of trying to get the "super" brass.

Had an S& L in my hands just yesterday and it was the first time I had heard of the cartridge. One damn fine look and fitting piece and the owner won't even consider parting with it LOL

I have had four 7X61 over the years, all in Schultz and Larsen rifles. Still have a very nice Model 60 with a 1:12 twist.

Simple to resize Win Super-X 7mm mag brass: anneal, resize, trim to length, resize again, chamfer case mouth and load. Case capacity is very close to 7X61 Super.

And it shoots very well.... They all do!

Most smiths would do it for $150 to $200 I would think...

If I didn't have a 7mm mag I would go this route, there is just something about keeping it as it was intended to be. I have the brass and I've been thinking lately it might be time to get into reloading. I also have a 17 Rem I need to start loading for and have 100's of brass for it.
