8-40 Screws

Why does to have to be 8x40?

8x40 is typically a gun associated size in shorter lengths than 3/4''.

8x36 would be easier to find in a 3/4 inch length.

Its to attach a scope base to a shotgun. I've already gone deeper on the counter sink on the base and I'm still only getting 3 threads into the reciever. If 3/4" is too ling, I can file them down to size. They are taper head screws but I'd take machine head screws and square up the shoulder on the base with an endmill.

You can always go deeper on the counter sink... there is no advantage to a lot of thread up in the base... but if you want to change the head buy some new ones...
