8.5 inch 870 receiver and longer barrels

Does anyone make a hunting length barrel for a short action receiver?

If you're unfamiliar, an 870 with barrel under 12" requires the locating ring of the barrel to be relocated. The ring is secured behind the magazine tube end cap holding the barrel in place. So an 8.5" barrel will not fit on a firearm with a full length magazine tube. They also require modified action bars, but that's a later issue.

I'm interested in a sporting length barrel (26-30") on a receiver with tube capacity of 2+1 (3"), sans plug. Does anyone make something, or would I have to have the ring moved?

Doesn't exist. You bought a tactical/micro shotgun. If you wanted a full size, you should go buy a full size. A brand new 870 express can be had for less than $500.

I realize it's not the normal, but I think a worthwhile project. An 870 (the greatest pump action ever built) dedicated to waterfowl with a 2+1 tube.

Midway used to sell the part, https://www.midwayusa.com/product/1005562245?pid=455211, and it seems to be just silvered in place. Cutting off the old ring and mounting a new shouldn't be too difficult. If I can find or make one.

Dlask can relocate the barrel ring on standard 870 barrel to fit the 8.5” and 10” shortys that they make, I’d contact them first and then try Tacord or S&J. I’m sure one of the three would be able to hook it up.

I had Dlask make me a 14" barrel for my 8.5 receiver. No problem and the same price as a regular 14"

OP, Dlask always seems to have longer factory take off barrels left over from their shorty conversions on their website.
