I remember many moons ago the question of the legality of "Masterkey" type setups were debated. Legal, if not incredibly cheesey. The 8.5s are neat, but without the ability to have them in pistol grip makes them a novelty to me. I.d rather have a 12.5 and the extra rounds.

UGH...search is your friend! This issue has been around for YEARS with the original Dlasks (of which I still own 2)

No means 'grey'. We are still waiting for someone to go to court and let them decide...until then.....you take your chances with your own legal interpretation.

It is considered a handgun in that setup. It is legal if you have a restricted firearms license and report the classification change to restricted within 30 days.

However that RCMP interpretation is vulnerable to a court challenge, if you want to try.
