Hey guys

Just saw a kriss vector semi auto in .22lr that was non restricted with an 8” barrel

I’m so confused on this one.

It’s a semi auto, so regardless of caliber I thought the barrel had to be at least 18.5 inches otherwise it’s restricted?

I know for say the 870 if the barrel is MANUFACTURED that short it’s ok provided the oal meets the minimum. I have seen the same thing in the ruger 77. But now this is a semi so maybe I missed something? Is it because it’s rimfire?

OAL is above 26"

Barrel length is for semiauto centrefire, there is no barrel length for semiauto rim

Key to legality as the others have pointed out is type of ammunition (rimfire vs. centerfire) as well as type of action (semi-automatic vs. manual like bolt-action or lever action). In this case it's a rimfire firearm, which has no legal limits on barrel length (as long as they are over the minimum which is 106mm).

Regarding barrel length for centerfire rifles - a semi-automatic rifle has to have a barrel length of 18.5" or more to remain non-restricted. But if it was a manual action, then it doesn't have the same limitation. For example, you could get a non-restricted centerfire rifle with a 8" barrel if it's manual action and is over 26" in overall length.

Correction : Over 105 mm

Yeah rimfire. The only real rules that applies, it has to be over 26" OAL, and barrel cannot be cut down.

Same rule kinda applies to manual centerfire rifles/shotguns. As I got a Lee Enfield with a barrel that was made at 12.5"
