Seeing that the RCMP seems to throw everything that slightly looks like a ak into the ak variant category. What would be the chances of getting the m1a classified as a Garand variant. And therefore making it eligible for the 8 shot semi auto exemption?

AIA .308 Enfield mags = 10 shots in an M-14 type rifle. ;)

Yep and here is a comparison

and chances of them saying is a varrent of a Grand 0 percent. The reason why it was exempt was due to allot of people complaing that it couldn't be pinned just like tube fed .22lr rifles so they changed it so they're exempt People complained shooting prarie dogs 1 round at a time just isn't effective enough.

yah, but where can you find one? Ive never seen any available.

People are working on it right now they should be coming in a while it took a rifle and a magazine and a company willing to make aftermarket magazines....

So its in the works..

I think your missing the point of the thread.

Just ask rhe RCMP what a variant is.....

You will find they have no answer at all because it's not defined by any law.

They just went and used it to do what they want and have been called on it more then once but there is no recourse for gun owners at all. No detention and they can do what they want with it.

In theory they could say any semi auto is a vagrant of the AK 47 because they all work the same in basic principal. Now there would be huge out rage and mobs of angry people so they won't do it but they could only because they have no detention and made it a policy (not law) to do so for the following things. Even the 22 LR rifles are called the same gun due to the fact they have the name only or basic look even though 0 parts will fit or work on the other gun.

The RCMP have asked the US not not allow the importation for the SCAR rifle because they had no way to stop it from coming in thats why it's an Itar banned item. They went out of their way to stop that rifle from coming in by calling them and asking they have done some sneaky deals in the past and are still doing sneaky things like changeing how ATT are issused everytime somone renews it seems to be a little diffren't.

All you have to do to figure this out is make phone calls to certain departments in the states and Canada and they will tell you thats the reason why. I called the US asking why is this item on a no go list and they flat out said because the RCMP asked us to put it on it.

This is news. I imagine there would be a fairly good upside for said company. The changes from M14 to AIA are slight, and the number of potential customers in Canada should more than cover a small run.

No, we are not. The exemption is for the enbloc clips themselves, not the Garand rifle. Unless you are willing to re-engineer the M-14 to take enblocs, this is a dead end idea.

Correct fnrob. We can thank Lever Arms for the enbloc exemption. I believe they went to Ottawa and lobbied when the gun laws and registry were being written as they had a large stock of M1 Garands at the time. The enbloc can not be easily pinned etc to limit it's capacity unlike a box style mag.

And your ying/yang thing could totally backfire and get M1 Garands declared as an M1A variant and the 5 round maximum rule could, in theory be applied!

think about it damullet......

I told them to start with a 20 round magazine they said no not yet they will try a small trial run of 10 rounds and see how it goes and decied to keep going or not after
