Out of curiosity I picked up a Scout mount for my 858 and was surprised to find that my QD optic mounts don’t jive with the rail, BOOO! If I can recall (it was late last night), the rail gutters(?) have curved edges and not squared edges. QD mounts have the squared cross bolt. Regular mounts work no problem. Kinda sucks. Perhaps I can file/machine down one of the gutters flat/square too see if a QD mount will work? I did like the new position of the optic, however. I’m running a SPARC but gonna try out the TRS-25 real soon. The Scout mount also seems nice and secure but I can understand that Loctite is a must with all the set screws! I’m running BUIS on NEA’s upper handguard and railed stock adapter, just playing around with different configs…and seeing as how I removed the factory front and rear sights, I thought it would be cool to try the Scout mount out. I also have NEA’s barrel rail mount but don’t prefer the look or added weight. I’m definitely cutting the unused front potion of rail on the Scout mount as many have done – hopefully this will allow me to remove the NEA upper handguard with no issues. For what it is though, the Scout mount is not a bad piece of kit at all...nice machining and good finish...install was a breeze.

Any of you big dogs coming out with a new and improved version of the Scout mount for the 858? =P

I dont know if there is much of a market for a VZ scout mount for the rear sight with the several HG offerings out there for similar prices. But yes, a quick filing should fix you up just fine. No problems with removing the front of the rail, if you can remove your HG with the scout base installed then just cut the rail flush with the base. I had one on an SKS without loctite but I only fired about 70 rds with it. It stayed tight and held/returned to zero nicely.
