I am outfitting my 18.5" 858 with a sight to go on a forend rail. I have on hand a LER scope (variable) and several red dot tube type sights.

Don't have a reflex sight to try out.

This rifle will be shot mostly in CQB.

I have been using a low powered scope on my AR in CQB, and like it. I have owned red dot for years, but can't recall ever using one. But I see lots of them on the range, so they must be good.

How long does a battery last? Any risk of it dieing in a shoot? I have a spare in my kit, so if it des with some warning, it could be dealt with.

Any feed back would be appreciated.

Battery life varies from different models, the newer aimpoints are advertised to last for years, eotechs 600 hours, not sure about the vortexs or trs25, carrying spare batteries is a good idea, using a QD mount is also a good idea, or use the NEA upper rail with a trs25 or aimpoint mini to co-witness the factory sights, since most RDS are LEDs they won't give you any warning before they die (ie dimmimg, blinking), just keep fresh batteries on hand and switch them up before any compitition and you'll be fine...good luck

cheap reddots kill the batteries very quickly which i discovered on my wife's tasco reddot. My vortex i forget to turn off all the time (it turns off after a couple hours) and i have yet to replace the battery after 1.5 years and i use it a decent amount of time.

My advice is to replace the battery and carry a spare for the SHTF moments.
