I think your standard spring should have plenty of extra length and push to tolerate one more shell. If not, any longer spring would do. a 5 round tube with 1 round in it is the same amount of space as a 7 round tube with 3 rounds.
IF the spring is too short/weak, than you may see cycling problems. Less of a concern with a pump. If the spring would have to be way too long to cause problems, and the solution in that case is easy. just trim a few rings of the spring at a time until it feeds properly.
Thanks. Being just a +1, I figured it would be fine, but just wanted to make sure. I won't have a chance to get out and function test it for a couple weeks.
The extension did come with a new spring, but it is several feet long and would need to be cut.
No dimples in this one for some reason, so new follower already installed.
We use the 22" Remington 870P spring with our +1 magazine extensions. If you have an 870P shotgun, you are good to go. If you have the 16" Express or Wingmaster sporting spring, you may have issues when cycling fast due to "shell surge".
