870 action (parts there but not working?)

I took delivery of a Remington 870 Wingmaster, I haven't got a barrel for it yet, but I'm thinking all the parts are there, but for some reason when I work the action, and pump the pump forward, and pull the trigger, the hammer does not fall. I took the trigger group out and gave it a blast of degreaser, when it's out it works just fine, when I pull the trigger the hammer falls, anyone have any idea what might be going on?

I took the barrel off of my 870 then racked the slide and pulled the trigger , it went click. It is possible that the (bolt) slide( it is the plate under the bolt) is not installed right, maybe backwards. Without a barrel it wouldn't make any difference because the bolt has nothing to lock into. I believe the (bolt) slide has to move something in the trigger group or it won't fire. Wierd, the left shell latch became un-staked in there it took me a while to figure out how to hold it in place whilst I slipped the darn trigger group in there, I ended up making a hook out of coat hanger (thank god for wire coat hangers what would I do without them?), I had it in there once and it worked for a little while then it stopped working again darn, I'm wondering if there is a part worn out in there? Oh well. I learned a little about stripping and putting the 870 back together lol.

Tony, take a good close look at the shell catch spring that came unstaked. That is a weak point in 870's (according to the RCMP armourer that taught a course I took). They crack around the hole.
