Well, it's nothing too special. Base gun is an early 870 Express from back when they were actually parkerized and uses the old style cap arrangement to accept mag extensions without mods.

Had the ugly press-checkered beech forend. Swapped it out for a spare birch foreand off an entry-level wingmaster. In person the color match to the butt is much closer.

Before anyone tells me to put black furniture or a PG, I went with the wood on purpose because I like the feel better.

Mag extension is a Choate, bracket is Uncle Mike's Law Enforcement. Spring is actually an over-strength (ie, longer) spring made by cutting down a spring intended for the 10 round extension.

Also has a left handed Uncle Mike's oversized safety button from the early 80's back before UM stopped making them for liability reasons (ie, some idiot got off on murder and sued the mfgr saying he thought the safety was on when he killed hi buddy or some nonsense). Yes, I'm left handed.

Not as fancy as most 870 buildups, but I like it. Still have to decide whether to re-bead and park, or to go the Armacoat route in flat grey. at the moment, I'm leaning towards Armacoat.

I'd go with parkerizing if you are going to keep the wood stocks for aesthetic reasons. There is nothing like the look and feel of wood and steel. <---- Gunnutz poetry :D

While that's true, Armacoat will be far more weather resistant. That being said, parkerizing would be alot cheaper an easier.

Decisions, decisions...

I guess the final option would be to leave it as-is and if it ever rusts I could worry about it then... lol.

Either way, ratcheting this baby will be the scariest thing any home-invader ever hears... ;)

Looks good, nice mag extension ;) Nice to see that someone else likes wood better than plastic, it just looks more serious.

Cheers

Very nice looking piece!

I too prefer the look of wood over plastic, but unfortunately, as I was limited in funds to an Express level 870... I have replaced my "stained hardwood" with a set of hogue stocks, after seeing what two hunting seasons did to the finish on my buddy's Express wood!

I also really like the fact that you haven't loaded up the poor gun with heatshield, side saddle, flashlight, laser, tv remote control, or three-speed blender attachments.... Not to say that those additional accessories don't ever have a place on a shotgun - But there is something very classy about the look of your shottie...

I think I need to buy another 870...

:)

Ike: Hmm... wonder where that extension came from??? Thanks bud ;)

nelly: Yeah, this is an express too. Great buy, really. As for the wood - I'm waiting for the finish to start flaking off so I'll have an excuse to refinish in linseed oil - lol. Oiled wood it where it's at!

Might have a like on a set of 870 Police wood which would be even better :)

As for all the Gucci gear... do guys who throw that stuff on actually carry their 870's anywhere? Even without all the shotty lego, this gun is far from light. Wouldn;t want to hump any more than I have to!

I'm pretty sure the Remmy hardwood stock would look and wear better if one did away with that cheap varnish and just refinished the stock after staining with an oil finish such as Tung and Teak or even Tru-Oil.
At least, an oil finish doesn't crack and peel off.
And a good fitting "cheap" hardwood stock enhanced with a good recoil pad beats a fancy ill-fitted synthetic one hands down every day.
PP.

Tung oil is a good way to finish them, my 870s are field tools so I don't worry about dents and scratches and the oil finish doesn't look as bad once it gets banged up.
Here is Tung oil on walnut

Is that an 18" tube with rifle sights? And yes.... I may just have to strip my Express stained wood down and oil it. Looks really nice.

SWEET!!

:)

If you have time, a linseed oil finish on wood can be very nice as well, and can be a very high gloss. I've never done it on gun wood before, but have used it several times on knife handles and it has held up well in field conditions. Not dishwasher safe though :D

Claven2's would be a 20" and mine is a 16" (factory)
It is shorter but I can only put a +1 rounds extension on it

The sad part of all this is that here in Ontario, you can hunt deer with a semi-auto rifle holding 5 rounds, of a manual repeating rifle holding an unlimited number of rounds, but your shotgun can only have 2+1. How stupid is that???

My bbl extension is for range fun only. When hunting it comes off and the mag is plugged. I also have a 26" remchoke tube for it.

THat would only be for ducks? In BC we have to mag restriction except for ducks etc. I don't know what to expect from Ontario anymore.
I know this has beeen discussed a lot but I haven't read those posts.

OK, well gun is off to Sendero for the grey Armacoat treatment. pics to follow when done. Might also switch over to 870 Police wood stock. We shall see.

Aw yeah...

All done. Now wearing field grey ArmaCoat and oiled 870 Police wood.

Only complaint I have is that the Armacoat is already wearing off the bolt body and slide rails despite curing for a month before I started workign the slide. I began wearing after maybe 20 cycles, but now after a few hundred cycles it doesn't seem to be wearing any further. Oh well. I still like it nad the receiver, etc. finish seems tough as nails.

The flash was acting weird. In person the wood is all the same color. In the pic of the mag tube (choate), you get a good idea of the true color of the wood.
