I removed the magplug from my 870 wingmaster for the first time and it is different from other ones (express) that I have seen. This one is solid steel and is held in place by a small screw. In order to hold more rds do I just keep this out and place the spring in held in place by the cap or is there a replacement piece?

How old is your Wingmaster? I have a 2001 model and it uses the standard green plastic plug, the same as all of the 870 Expresss I have owned over the years used. My friend's Wingmaster which is about 1965 vintage uses a wooden plug.

Are you referring to the magazine spring retainer or the plug? Perhaps a previous owned machined their own plug?

I've seen a couple like that. It seemed to be something like a forend weight that doubled as a mag plug and was held in place by a screw through the mag wall.

The magazine plug does nothing but block the magazine to hold two rounds. Go ahead and remove it if you want more capacity.
