870 barrel and grizzly receiver compatability?

I bought a 12.5" grizzly for the barrel to put on my 870 receiver police wood build. They seem to mate up fine (barrel fits a bit tighter). However I was going to put my 28" 870 barrel on the new grizzly receiver to make up a new duck rig to give to my brother in law. The barrel seems to be too tight to fit. Should I try and mash it on with a rubber mallet or is there a reason this won't work? The 870 barrel is an express super mag 3.5" shells, not sure that would make a difference (just can't use that shell length on 3" receiver).

If it dosnt work I guess both components go on the EE :(

Don't mash on it.
Even different generation 870's might not swap barrels easily. It's not surprising that an 870 clone might have some issues.
I find the Chinese barrels fit and work best on Chinese guns. Lot's of people running the cheap short Chinese barrels on Remington's but every one I've seen has been canted off to the side a bit.

What gun did the 28" barrel come off?

The 28" is off an express super mag. Basically I am swapping barrels between a grizzly 12.5" and a 28" 870 (I would prefer to keep my old receiver).

Well that's besides the point but yes - I am turning my trusty ol 870 hunting shotgun into a bush/ bear gun since I have an sx3 for hunting now. Lol.

Right on man it's your gun, I'm just trying to figure out what's going where.... I got thrown off in your OP when you said the Grizz barrel was tighter on your Rem receiver but the Rem barrel was too tight for the Grizz receiver? This made me think you had a couple different Remington 870's.

I'd be tempted to just use the Grizz as shipped with the substitution of your Police wood.

This resolved itself in another way - the Grizz receiver actually was defective in not taking shells in the tube. Can am is taking the receiver back but letting me keep the barrel (we worked out a value for both and I get a refund back). Can am is good stuff. Anyway I will probably just sell off my 28" barrel or pick up another receiver for the barrel so my brother in law can use it.
