870 doesn't feed

Well thigs were happening over the last year and I didn't get around to having the gun fixed until recently. So I take it to a smith and he shows me exactly what was going on with the jam issue. When you pump the forend backwards it wasn't mating well with the cam on the action bar, so the latch gets replaced. So I'm thinking great it's gonna work now and he didn't charge me too much either.......double good. Had it out 2 days ago and guess what it jammed again only this time I WAS able to press the latch and the shell popped out without having to tear down the gun. This is totally F*%@!# up and I'm scratching my head. I like the fit and finish of the 870, I just want something that will be reliable. Anyone have any insight to this??

This guy is the real thing fully liscenced. The last guy I took it to was on Remington's list and did nothing to it except work I didn't want and what the gun didn't need. To top that off he had the thing for like 7 months so I won't bother going to see him if that's what I can look forward to.

Welcome to the world of the hit-and-miss reliability of the 870 Express. They are no Wingmaster, that's for sure.

There are lots of Expresses around that are semi reliable - they work "most" of the time. I currently have one that works 100% of the time. In the past I used to own one that had the occasional feed issues. I got clear of that one.

Save yourself the heartburn and get a used Wingmaster or a new HP-9.

I was thinking of the wingmaster route, how's the hp9 hold up?
A friend of mine runs a gun shop and told me one day he's never had an HP-9 come back for repairs, as there have been a decent number of them sold around here I think that's a promising sign of reliability.

i had the same issue with my 870, took it to ontario gun services and i'm not sure what he did but it works flawless now.... had at least 1200 shells thru it since it was fixed, only cost me 20 bucks too

ive put thousands of reloads and factory through my 870 and never a problem

On a side note many years a ago i was taught to unload live rounds through the bottom loading gate.

you wonder how !!
ITS VERY SIMPLE

with your little finger or the ring finger press up and hold the hinged floor plate
pull back on the for stock with the other hand and shell ejects into your hand:dancingbanana: then you can put it into your pocket and repeat
