870 ejector

OP,
Ejector(riveted in receiver) or Extractor?

Ejector spring. Looking to convert an old 20 gauge wingmaster 2 3/4” to 3”. It’s an old model built on the 12 gauge frame and as far as I can tell it looks to have a 12 gauge ejector. Already has a barrel with 3” chamber.
It was pieced together by my father 30+ years ago for me as a kid. Giving it some love now.

That one on the EE has been for sale from before my ban (gouging). Send me your info and I’ll send you one nc

I am in the same boat (convert from 2.75 to 3") but mine is 12ga , do you have the special tool to remove the rivets if not how?

I was told I can probably use the dremel to shave / extend the cut on the ejector for 3 inch shell but need to change the spring is that true?

Yes you can extend the cut if needed but you still need the correct spring and if you’re gonna take the ejector out to modify it good luck reusing the rivets. If all you need to do is replace the spring then the chance of reusing the rivet is better.

I ordered the brownells rivet cutter. Hoping I can reuse the front rivet.

Thanks for your information.

I will be refinishing the receiver (cerakote?) Or something similar sonreally don't mind to replace the rivets just don't have the rivet cutter and set tool. .

Someone please sell me a spring.

I saw that…..wow is it ever expensive. Supply and demand I guess. Hopefully Remington starts turning out some parts soon.

Keep in mind that RemArms has announced that they will be closing the Ilion, New York plant around March 2024 .... and where all 870 are manufactured. And they are moving production to Georgia. I suspect it will take them a while till they are up and running again ... especially for spare parts ....

The rivets and ejector are available from reliable gun in Van, haven’t found a Canadian source for the spring (but haven’t looked that hard, I bought my own stash right after rem went tits up the first time).

So, here is source for ejectors in the US. But they do not ship to Canada. Their contract with RemArms prevents them from shipping to Canada.

Myself I ordered from them ... with shipping to a holding address just across the border. And I am driving down there to pick up the package and bring it back to Canada. As long as those shotgun parts have a value of less than USD $500.- they are exempt from an export license. Meaning, there is no paperwork need to cross the border with them ....

So, if you can figure out the logistics .... this might be an option for those folks living closer to the border.

Thanks for all the help everyone, much appreciated.

This project has gotten a little bit more complicated. The ejector is in fact different on the 20 gauge vs the 12. The 12 gauge ejector spring appears to work but I will have to modify the ejector to move the “bump” back.

I swapped the bolt and barrel to my 12 gauge 3” wingmaster to confirm….it won’t be as simple as swapping the spring. I expect finding a 20 gauge extractor for the 12 gauge size frame would be difficult!

It would be much easier to just leave well enough alone and buy a new 20 gauge but that doesn’t seem fun and I’d like to get this done up properly, have it cerakoted and give it to my son in a couple of years.
