Hi all,
my first post on here since signing up just the other day. I have a 870 express that i got a few years ago that i use primarily for ducks and geese. I keep hearing about how great the Wingmaster is is compared to the Express and haev checked the stats on it online and with a few people i know that have fired both. Basically, what i am wondering is if it is worth upgrading from my current model to the more expensive Wingmaster? Anyone know what the differences in functioing/performace/quality are and if they are substantial enough to trade up? looking forward to hearing your responses

I own a wingmaster and I love it. My friend owns a express so I've fired it quite a few times. If I was in your boat I wouldn't upgrade because they are pretty damn close.

The wingmaster has a blued receiver and the stock is polished.
The Express has a black matte receiver with a laminate stock.

Other than that not too much difference IMHO... Having fired both I like my wingmaster better and so does my friend, but not so much for him to sell his express and buy a wingmaster...

At the end of the day if your happy with your express stick with it.

Hope this helps.

Close stops where they look alike. Take the two apart side by side especially if the wingmaster is a pre 1986 and compare the fits and finish, metal vs plastic items. Then the obvious stuff like bluing ,wood etc.
I don't know new cars but if you can remember the 60's some guys went to work in biscaynes and others caprices.
Both were chevrolets and got them there but the caprice was a hell of a smoother ride.Same here both are made by remington and both will go bang.
Worked on a ton of both sytles but currently own more wingmasters than fingers and toes and just kept one express because it is a 28ga. All of mine however except the 3 1/2 I bought in 2002 and yes they did make one in a wingmaster are pre 1986. I also find the express just too plain and life is too short to own ugly guns.If they were that close why is the wingmaster almost double the money to buy new from remington
To me Margarine vs Butter but that is just my opinion.

The Express is like an F-150 and the Wingmaster is the FX4 version .
Nicer fit and finish along with nicer trim.
Buy an 870Winmaster if you feel the need to spend some money or keep shooting the Express till it breaks...if it breaks.
Tight Groups err FullPaterns ;)

I own a couple of each. None in their factory trim though. I bought my first express new but with a low round count. It wasn't as smooth as my wingmaster and trap loads used to stick in the chamber. After a few years of clay targets and waterfowling the action smoother out and once the chamber was polished the hulls stopped sticking. I can't really speak for the new express as I've only fired one. The same goes for the wingmaster as well, both of mine are pre 1970.
