So i bought a Remington 870 field express from Le Barons on Saturday, when i get home i load some snap caps and see my first pump of the action drops the shell out the bottom. I tried loading another 2 and saw that the shell lift was catching on the primer or the next shell in the mag. I stripped it cleaned it oiled it, put it back together cycled the action a few time fast to break it in a little bit. Same problem contined.IT seems that the shell head including with AA 9 shot heavy loads is sticking out to far and catching the lift. I called Le Barons and they said they will take a look at it tomarrow. I am definately discouraged as i am new to the shooting sports and limited on funds. Does anyone have an idea of what the problem would be? I will keep you guys posted on the outcome with Le Barons.

Unfortunately Mike, it may be poor quality control at Remington. Ever since they got bought out it seems quality has suffered.

Don't fault the 870 design though. It is time proven and reliable. I have used many 870s over the years including several Express models and all have been 100% reliable. I'm sure LeBarons will fix you up.

At this time if I were to buy a new 870 it would be a Wingmaster as the quality on the Winmasters apparently has not suffered. problem is the Wingmaster is about double the price of an Express. Of course if you look around you can get used Wingmasters for less than a new Express. IMHO, a better choice.

Thank wooly im heading down today to see what happens ill keep everyone up on it.

I wish you the best of luck dealing with Lebaron and an 870 Express. Sounds like a problem with the shell latch in the magazine tube.Worse comes to worse you could replace the latch, however Remington and Lebaron should make it right.

I brought my 870 to LeBaron's for warranty work this fall. Turnaround time was less than 2 weeks. I didn't pay a cent. Impressed with the service, not the gun.

Hey guys just got back, turns out that the trigger assembly was faulty. We could not figure out what what was wrong with it but the shell lift was way to close to the magazine and it took alot of force at the half way point to close the action. They swapped out the old trigger assembly with a new one and it now smooth as butter!! Thanks for the help
