870 Finish?

Hey guys I have a tact out 870 express 12.5" breacher, knox stock blah blah blah.

A dear friend of mine dropped it the other day and scratched the cheapy paint the comes on it and nor bare medal is exposedf:P:2:

I was thinking about stripping it down and painting it black with a better paint? good idea? bad idea?

if it is a good idea if anyone knows where to get the pain and what type to get please let me know.

That's not "paint", it's either crappy blueing or black oxide, you can touch the bare metal spots up with cold blueing solution if you want to make it cheap and easy. You can pick up cold blue at any gun store.
 
Yes you can do it yourself. You'll need a spray gun kit. Doesn't have to be a gravity fed compressor model though, you can get hobby kits that use cans of compressed air.

Murdoc how does the finish wear over time? and can it be removed in the future? How does the ARMA-COAT hold up on plastic stocks?

I own a Rem 870 XS tactical which I don't like the finish on at all. I use my gun for turkey hunting.

I will chime in hear for a bit.
S&J has a demo shotgun , a well used rem 870 police,set up with out cqb stock adaptor and rail.
we painted the gun with Arma-coat OD green 3 years ago.
The test gun has 12k of rounds shot in it and the finish is close to 90% even on the mag tube.

as badboybeeson explained our finishes hold up extremely well and will never rust. If you wish to remove it you have to sandblast it off. It will hold extremely well on plastic stocks too. Lil_juiced coupes 870 should arrive to him in the next day or so, and I am sure he can post a few pics of his 870 shorty.
