Looking to see if I can find an adapter that will allow me to keep the original wood stock and convert it into a folder....

Also, if making an 8.5" 870 into a back packer in this way with a folding stock, does it change the non-restricted status?

I'm sure these questions have been answered before many times, but my 870's have always been long barrel hunting outfits.

I can't say I've ever seen an adaptor to make the original stock on an 870 into a folder.

As for the question about putting a folder of this type on an 8.5 inch barreled 870, it would become restricted, since the shotgun would be less than 26 inches folded and still be able to be fired when folded:
Definition of a Restricted Firearm

According to the Criminal Code, a restricted firearm is:
  • a handgun that is not a prohibited firearm;
  • a semi-automatic, centre-fire rifle or shotgun with a barrel length less than 470 mm (18.5 inches) that is not prohibited;
  • a rifle or shotgun that can fire when its overall length is reduced by folding, telescoping or some other means to less than 660 mm (26 inches);
  • any firearm prescribed as restricted (including some long guns).

Yeah I didn't think so thanks for the info....
I suppose one could use a folder to make a long barrel swap more compact for hiking through the bush, but I'm thinking more along the lines of predator defense in remote wilderness areas packing something smaller.
