I am in the middle of removing the turkey stock and forarm from my 870 to put the normal stock and forarm back .but I am having a heck of a time getting the ring that holds the wood on the tube to turn. I oiled it up realy good but just can't get it to budget. Any tips.

assuming you have the proper wrench and it's just really tight, get someone to hold the forend while you wrench on it. Just had the same problem.

Secure the piece. Then use a heavy set of needle nosed plier opened to set into the notches. keep the out ward pressure on while turning. This works but these are not the proper tools for the job.

I used a pair of need nose pliers and it worked fine. No need for any specialty tools!

Not unless you like taking the risk of breaking it, then the small investment for the proper tool is not needed.
How many use just a regular screw driver to remove the butstock of their shotgun?
You run the risk of breaking the stock if the driver slips out of the slot while trying to loosen said nut.

I just used to add oil and use the bolt carrier to unscrew it. Yes I know it isnt the proper tool for the job but it never had any problems.

I suggested the plier trick as I noted he was working on a synthetic turkey stock/for end. Little risk of damaging that material.
