870 machined choke

Wouldn't it be a lot cheaper to buy one?
A smith will bill you at least an hour plus the machining. I'm sure that's more money than a new choke tube.
 
Dude - His 870 has a fixed choke. This is not a particularly difficult job - the smith needs the appropriate reamer. See the Epps website for guidance, I'm sure someone from Alberta will chime in.
 
Any half assed smith can do it, since your taking it to a smith just get it threaded for chokes instead better value in the end.
 
A replacement barrel for an 870 would probably be a better bet, as far as price goes, then you will have the option of a different length as well. Buy a new barrel and a set of choke tubes for it.

Beats heck outta not having it solve whatever problem you feel you have with it by reaming out the choke.

Sell the original barrel to recoup some money if you must. It'd be cheaper in the end than gunsmithing the barrel, I think. And you wouldn't have a mis-marked barrel either.

Why improved modified? Are you trap shooting?

If you are doing it for steel shot, improved modified is still way too tight.

If you can't find anyone in Alberta - I have done hundreds of them. PM me...

Epp's wants $60 to ream a choke. Your local smithy should be in the neighbourhood of Epp's price. As mentioned, any smithy who has the reamer can do it.
